Hammers social club ask for crowd fund rescue

PaulChristmasWest Ham United Supporters Club closed its Castle street doors to the public recently for essential maintenance.  Claret and Hugh have been told this was carried out primarily to health and safety concerns as the clubhouse needs a major refurbishment to open safety again after years of maintenance neglect.

The Hammers social club are now attempting to crowdfund a massive £150,000 to help with repairs on top of them already selling a flat that the supporters club own nearby.

The closure of the Castle Street premises has meant the postponement of a number of fundraising events involving former players.

The members-only club has recently opened a pop-up match day venue at Stour Space on Fish Island close to the London Stadium. All profits from match day venue will also be used to help retain and develop the Castle Street building.

The committee says: “We plan to use Castle Street as our main base, increase community use, share and display the history of West Ham United within the club, develop the venue into an improved events space and host events for our members. It is hoped that the funds generated from Stour Space and the improved Castle Street facilities will provide an opportunity to find our own second venue close to the new stadium.”

The supporters club celebrate their seventieth anniversary this year having formed in 1947.
