Hammers social club problems laid bare

SocialWest Ham United Supporters’ Club problems have been laid bare with the release of a report and minutes from an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on 5th November.

The Hammers social club reveal that had £4,240 remaining in their bank balance in July this year but that has since dwindled down to just £1,044 in November at the time of the meeting. There is also talk of a lost bank account registered to a former committee member containing £16,000 of much-needed funds.

The new committee of the 70-year-old club said running costs of their Castle street premises were £4,500 per month before the closure on health and safety grounds. They also admit the club was previously operating unlawfully as they did not have the correct license to sell alcohol.

The club says have borrowed £56,000 secured against two flats they own in Green-street while another new committee member has loaned them £11,500 to keep them afloat.

Minutes reveal that the new Stour Space pop up bar close to the London Stadium is currently making a loss also that the Castle street clubhouse made massive losses in 2017 with £24,000 of takings against running costs of £67,000.

The report says £27,000 is needed for safety improvements and up to £40,000 is needed to replace two commercial boilers for the castle street clubhouse to re-open it.

The club also confirms they have sold one of the two flats in Green street for £207,500 and are waiting for completion but in the meantime, they are desperately trying to obtain a bridging loan to afford their outgoings for the club’s continuing existence.  Membership has grown to 681 at the beginning of November after failing to 49 last season.
