Hammers Social Club to meet again

SOCIALCLUB2The future of the Hammers Social club will once be the topic of discussion this weekend.

A  new General Meeting will be held this Sunday at 12.30pm in the Centenary Bar of the Castle Street premises.

Only current members of the club are invited to attend the meeting and a full card check will take place on the door says a flyer on their notice board.

There are thought be 230 members in total with valid membership.

The club is thought to have very few funds left in its bank account but one member has offered to fund the club’s operating expenses until a flat owned by the HSC can be sold. Claret and Hugh have been told the social club has been losing around £7,000 per month since the Boleyn Ground closed one year ago.

Chairperson Doreen Hoadley and her executive committee stepped down last month and a new executive committee is expected to be elected on Sunday in a fresh attempt to save the club.

In a 99 year lease signed on 25th March 1993 the social club pays a peppercorn rent of just 5 pence per year to Newham council with 75 years of the long lease remaining. They paid £30,000 up front in 1993 as part of that deal. The supporters club is thought to have moved into their current Castle street building in 1955 but the club was in existence before that.

  1. Cheers for the update Sean. Think I’m the only one that has an interest in this lol. I see one of the leading lights on kumb has gotten involved on the committee. I really hope it continues, I hope it moves closer to Stratford and I hope it understands the value of its 99 year lease. I say that as many of our haters do not understand the value of our 99 year lease on the OS.

IVE SAID IT BEFORE THE WHUISA CLUB SHOULD GET INVOLVED. Nigel for chairman. I’m perfectly serious. It would bring in more members for the ISA and provide them a power base.
