Hammers speak on Berbatov

|

Berbatov_1575222aWest Ham will not be making a move for Dimitar Berbatov.

Morning newspaper reports suggested that the former Manchester United and Spurs striker was being offered to the Hammers by agents.

The 34 year was seen as a short term cover player given the injuries suffered by West Ham strikers but the club made it clear to ClaretandHugh “we won’t be moving in that direction.”

A top level source told us: “He as discussed earlier in the summer and we took opinions on board but he doesn’t fit our age or fitness profile.”

If Wenger (rightly so) refuses to rush out to buy a striker, then we certainly don’t need to.
More than ever, the clubs refusal to go overboard in this particular direction, is shown to be correct as is Bilic’s strategy of putting a strong, potent midfield ahead of an overly expensive striker.
As Bilic said last week, a good freebie or loaner is a possibility but only if he fits with his philosophy.

We still need a striker, you can’t argue against that. A good result against the Gooners doesn’t change the fact that we only have 1 striker that is fit or that you can rely on but the club is obviously willing to wait it out until other things develop. Look at Austin for example QPR wanted £15m yet with 3 weeks of the window left are already prepared to drop to £13m up front and the closer to Sep we get the more willing they will be to listen to offers. Deals are there to be had and the club are aware of it and will look to get the best value for their funds, it just means that we are going to have to be patient.

Bilic never said a good freebie or loaner last week.He never mentioned what amount we would pay for a striker.Just said he would like one more striker & midfielder. No mention at all of it being a free or loan signing from what i saw & heared.

hopefully that arsenal game might help persuade a striker or two that West Ham are a team on the up. It was a great advert.

    Go to America young Man

Paper talk,we are said to be looking for a striker,Berbatov has no club so why not put the two together & create a story.

Thank God.I hope this is a statement of intent.I have lost count of the number of over the hill players we have taken over the years which have not worked out.We have a brilliant squad of players right now and Slavens willingness to blood young players like Oxford in the Arsenal game today means we have moved away from acquiring these high earning has beens.
