How fast this season is disappearing: Already the international break is upon us with the business end of the Premier League season just around the corner. And with the FIFA Club World Cup championship set to take place in June, the extra transfer window opens early this summer- June 1st is just about ten weeks away.
So when speculation from his homeland links this particular West Ham first team regular with a move in time for the World Club championships, I’m all ears: Especially since it is Edson Alvarez- the player who by his own admission was about one hour away from joining Chelsea but then did a dramatic ‘U’turn and signed for West Ham.
His first season under Moyes was ok, but he’s been heading downhill since, dogged by injury and yellow and red cards.
With a dreadful disciplinary record, headless-chicken style on-pitch antics and being part of West Ham’s “midfield that cannot run’; Would anyone actually shed a tear if ‘El Machin’ upped and left for Chelsea in time for the June championships, as reported yesterday in Mexican site nacionfutbol.com.mx :
“Edson Álvarez could be the reinforcement of a European club for the Club World Cup, because they have been looking for him for a long time: Chelsea”

Edson Alvarez-finally off to Chelsea ahead of world Club competition..?
I suppose I can understand Chelsea’s interest – a midfield enforcer might be a useful addition for the World Club Championships if money were no object – but from West Ham’s point of view, Alvarez has failed to live upto the ‘Declan Rice Replacement’ label which was applied when he joined from Ajax in December 2023.
I can only hope the report has substance, surely Graham Potter will have him out of the door so fast there’ ll just be a whirlwind flurry of red and yellow cards left behind. And anything over the €38 million which West Ham paid would be a big bonus for the summer rebuild budget.
I “like” what Martine said, it is always writing negatively about every body, it is always so and so is not good enough, so and so is so bad, he never write any positive, and he always try to cover his weakness through Rice, Rice is gone bro, u can not have 4 Rices in the World, every player is different from another. Alvarez is giving 100%, and if you can get chance to interview opposition player ask them about playing against him.
If you take a good close look at Alveraz people will realize what an an important player he can be Its only w Hams unprofessional approach in the past why we havnt seen the best of him Imn certain under Potter we will see better things
Alvarez is a ball winner not a box to box runner put more runners around him and just let him play as we know he can but putting slow players like ward prowse and soucek in the same midfield is making him look worse he’s trying to cover everything which obviously he can’t and his frustration boils over covering not only his position but others who get caught upfield and can’t get back it’s so obvious to see he needs help and most of the time he gets exposed, put the right combination in with him problem solved
spot on my friend
I fully agree, selling Alvarez would be the wrong option. We have good players but they don’t compliment each other’s strengths. It might be the only option though because other senior midfielders we have aren’t likely to fetch much of a fee.
