West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has revealed how he would love to represent the club for the rest of his career.
The Hammers frontman was speaking to West Ham fan and ’90s pop star Chesney Hawkes, who interviewed him for TNT Sports ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Chelsea.
Hawkes is famous for his hit single “The One and Only” but is frequently seen attending West Ham games and is a huge Irons supporter. Hawkes discussed Bowen’s elevation to club captain, and it was obvious from the interview that Jarrod is extremely proud to not only represent the club but also to wear the armband.
Bowen has acquired a deep knowledge of West Ham’s history, which one can only assume he has learned at the club and also from the grandfather of his children, Danny Dyer. In many respects, Jarrod reminds me of two other outsiders who became West Ham through and through: Alvin Martin and James Collins, aka The Ginger Pele.
Sometimes people join the club and just have an immediate understanding and affinity with the history and the fan base, and Bowen is certainly one of those. When Hawkes asked the new skipper if he felt like the adopted son of East London, Bowen could hardly contain his pride.
“I do call myself the adopted West Ham boy, yeah,” said the Hero of Prague.
“I love it here on the pitch, off the pitch, everything. I’ve got a really happy family, and it’s all been an upward trajectory since I’ve been here. I signed a new contract last year and I still have a lot of football left to play.”
Bowen then went on to explain how he hopes to end his career by playing for West Ham until he hangs up his football boots.
The phrase “West Ham legend” is often overused, but in Bowen’s case, I think it’s apt. A player usually has to wait for a career to be over to have such a tag bestowed upon them, but I honestly think he’s there already.
Bowen’s a top west ham boy I wish him well for the rest of his career with the IRONS! !!
Alvin Martin may have been from Liverpool but he came through the West Ham youth set up, so was hardly an outsider
Bowen a true hero at Westham could have taken a transfer away to earn top money that he deserves as a top class player. But took the decision to stay at Westham that gave him his professional chance. Well done Jarrod
