Having watched Saturdays game against Sunderland, it was refreshing to finally leave the London Stadium with a smile on my face.
My grin was even wider when I reflected on Mateus Fernandes’ performance as he delivered one of the standout moments of West Ham’s 3–1 win over Sunderland, scoring the third goal just before halftime.
The goal came in the 43rd minute, the Portuguese youngster giving West Ham a commanding 3–0 lead with his long‑range effort, described by one news outlet as a “sumptuous strike from distance”.
As Fernandes told whufc.com:
” I’m very happy with this goal, it’s my first ever from outside the box”.
His performance was widely praised, as West Ham secured a crucial victory in their fight for survival. That’s three wins on the bounce now. Fernandes showed composure, confidence, and technical quality at a time when the Hammers desperately needed it.
The Portuguese u21 skipper is rapidly becoming one of the Premier League’s most talked‑about young midfielders, which has alerted a number of clubs, including Real Madrid, and only reinforces how impressive his rise has been.
His performances for West Ham this season especially in pressure‑filled matches have made him a standout talent in a struggling side.
Real Madrid’s interest is a concern. Yet, despite reports suggesting the player has a relegation clause, Claret and Hugh sources dismissed this claim. The Portuguese midfielder cost the Hammers £40m and signed a five year contract in August 2025.
He’s represented by Jorge Mendes, a close associate of Nuno Espírito Santo any bid for the player will need to be significant. For now, the midfielder is a force to be reckoned with in a Claret and Blue shirt, and long may that continue!
I feel bad for Southampton, im gonna start a go fund me to get them another 20m lol.
Oh and on paqueta, what he is doing is helping us the situation has somehow galvanised the team has them playing for each other rather than themselves and allowed fernades to thrive without him on the pitch, now sell paqueta and get us another defender please
