West Ham starlet George Earthy continued his comeback from injury last night, playing 80 minutes for Bristol City in their 2-1 loss to Sheffield United.

The 19-year-old has reunited with former Hammers youth coach Liam Manning at Ashton Gate, but an ankle injury has limited his Championship appearances since his loan move from the Hammers.

Last night, however, Earthy earned a start and showed some neat touches in what would ultimately be a frustrating loss for City. They appeared to be cruising to a well-earned point against the high-flying Blades before an over-elaborate defensive move forced Robert Dickie into committing a professional foul.

The foul left the referee with little choice but to show Dickie a red card in the 95th minute, yet Bristol City still seemed set to hold on. Unfortunately, down to ten men, they couldn’t hold out, and Harrison Burrows clinched a late winner in the 98th minute.

Despite the dramatic loss, the match was a valuable competitive run-out for Earthy, who can now begin to make his mark at his loan club.
