Hammers start ‘free’ goalkeeper hunt

West Ham have started a hunt for a free agent keeper as the Roberto disaster goes on and on.

The club have only one home grown player slot available in their squad list and that is restricting the choice of keepers.

We are unaware who may or may not be available but learned last night that the club will bring in a free agent if they can find anybody of quality.

But a quick look at the list of those available at www.transfermarkt.com holds out no immediate promise that there is a keeper available of the standard required.

The shocking form of Roberto, and his obvious loss of confidence, was horribly apparent yesterday as for most of the game against Spurs he appeared petrified at what was going on around him.

He has now conceded 19 goals in all competitions since stepping in for Fabianski but with so few options in the free agent market, his and our agonies could be set to continue.

  1. Pathetic. Spend money. Or drop a player like Reid or Wilshire from the 25. We are run like a pub team.

    • So we buy 2 goalkeepers at the start of the season. From day 1, I saw the complete uselessness of Roberto in pre-season matches. Now if u could see, then surely a seasoned manager and captain should clearly see that. And then instead of replacing thus idiot, the manager and Capt says we gotta support him. Then what about the 2nd keeper … is he worse. • We should give the keeper gloves to Pelligrini, his agent, director and captain .. and let them face Chelsea and the next matches …. and keep the losses under 10 goals against. OR resign and let the next management get us out if this rot, and get us Premier League standard players. Thank you.

  2. A complete farce, manager needs to go now!!! As for Roberto it’s not his fault he has never been any good, terrible management.

  3. Just go over to Hackney marshes today and sign somebody.
    Would they be any worse!

  4. Why did the official website report the signing of Martin if he was only brought in to help with training? It reeks of some of the hypocrisy around the club always over-hyping what we do (cue cringeworthy Mourinho tweet that came back to bite us)

  5. Dreadful lack of planning, VORM was available free until a very short while ago, proven prem quality, I think Spurs have snapped him up again, I agree we are run like a pub team,

  6. Having sat through two home games where the support offered to a guy who is struggling for confidence was to jeer or sarcastically applaud and cheer every touch of the ball, I’m reminded of 1989 when we ere relegated. In the early part of the season when things started badly every time Alan Dickens got on the ball half the east stand were on his back; he was being blamed for a poor team performance.

Anyone who cares to look at the video highlights of that year will note that Dickens turned his season round and either laid on or scored the goals that nearly got us out of the hole we were in.

The players are the players, if they wear the shirt, a supporters job is to support. Yesterday the Spuds already had 12 men on the pitch, with Oliver’s crap refereeing; at times in the match the Home support provided their 13th.

I found it embarrassing to sit next to supposed supporters who were slagging off an individual player in such vitriolic terms. If you can’t shut up or support go and sit in the away end.

  7. Fans screaming about replacing him and we need to spend money must understand, we cannot buy another player until the January window so it must be a free agent unless we wait until January. Terrible foresight, i know, but it is what we’re saddled with.
As for Noble saying we gotta support him, what’s he supposed to say? Can hardly tell us what he’s really thinking, knowing we’re stuck with him. They should never have gambled on Fab remaining uninjured, because, make no mistake it was a gamble on the part of Pellegrini and our so called Director of Football.
We have a first team plus 3/4 reasonable replacements. the rest are distinctly sub standard yet the Manager says he has the squad he wants. How is this a world class manager? Who identified and bought the likes of Sanchez, Fornals, Ajeti, Roberto and Martin, who by the way, is not even deemed superior to the present disaster on legs? Wilshere could have been a reasonable gamble and a great asset if he could stay fit. Big “if “”though and therefore should only have been put on a short term contract until he proved his durability. Instead, at the Manager’s insistence, he gets a 3 year contract that will end up costing us over £14 million pounds.
It is obvious, and has been for quite some time to most fans, that defensive mid, r/back and l/back needed addressing. Why has nothing been done?

Why, when he so obviously needs a partner, has Haller been left stranded upfield alone until such time as he now looks totally dispirited and disillusioned?
Why are Anderson, a right footer who cannot cross with his left and Yarmolenko, a left footer who cannot cross with his right, never told to switch wings? The speed of our attacks is always stopped dead in its tracks by their constant need to check back and come inside. Why can’t a “world class manager see this? Don’t get me started on the baffling substitutions. I really had great hopes for Pellegrini and his team but I, like most of the fellow fans I talk to, have gradually been worn down almost to the point of apathy. HE MUST GO NOW!!!! COYI.

    • Understand everything you wrote , Mooro . Hard to disagree . But as I have said in loads of previous posts I am totally against the January Window . It should be abolished . Teams/squads should play a whole season with what they’ve got . It would be the same for everyone , injuries , bad form ect ect . But given how they are managed is a different kettle of fish altogether . Managers are not in this transfer window and can be changed as many times as the club wants . So in short ; change the manager .

  8. Bring back Trott from Wimbledon – although young surely a better option?

    • Any keeper on our books can’t possibly do worse than Roberto ,, that’s a given .
Our manager refuses to accept the obvious and it seems nothing will change his mind except maybe the threat of being sacked .
I never criticize individual players but in Robertos case it’s unavoidable .

  9. We’ve already got a “ free “ goalkeeper , ask any team that squeeze goals in like toothpaste from a tube against us . Give some youth a chance instead of relying on the unreliable .
It definitely wouldn’t upset the Fans imo .
