Hammers start new contract talks with defender

CandH Exclusive by Hughie Southon

West Ham have started discussions with Ben Johnson over a new and improved contract.

The young right back’s current deal runs out in June next year but a two year option is in place as is usually the case with our players.

However, the club are ready to offer him a new deal which would hopefully be either of four or five years.

Ben has been a total revelation this season and has managed to keep Vladi Coufal out of the right back role since he first suffered a groin problem.

He was again impressive at the Etihad on Sunday – the ground where he made his debut for the Hammers.

We were told this morning that talks between Ben and his representatives had started as the club looks to tie down its major players.

The 21 year looks set to retain his place in the team on the right side against Brighton and Hove Albion at the London Stadium tomorrow night (Wed).
