Hammers still in race for England keeper

West Ham are believed to still be keeping an eye on England goalkeeper Sam  Johnstone despite the summer arrival of  Alphone Areola on loan.

Johnstone was between the sticks for England last night and is out of contract at West Brom next summer which may tempt the Hammers to repeat the £10 million bid they saw refused in the last window in January.

Areola remains a live prospect to join the club despite being given little opportuniy to show what he’s got over the first games of this campaign.

However. Southampton are set to join  the Hammers and Spurs in a chase for the keeper who is certain to leave the Baggies.

With Lukasz Fabianski in his last season – having received an emotional farewell to his international career for Poland last night – Areola could still be involved in a switch to the London Stadium as back-up to Johnstone.

Spurs are likely to mount a big challenge though with Hugo Lloris saying in August that the club had not approached him about extending his stay in north London.
