There’s fierce competition growing for any half-decent striker ahead of the January transfer window. Wolves, Leeds and West Ham are desperate to find the mythical front man who will find the net half a dozen times and secure their Premier League survival.

For Hammers fans it is deja vu when twelve months ago after all the frantic hype of a January transfer window just the loanee Evan Ferguson appeared: The club will have to do better next month or relegation surely awaits.

Rumours abound of scouts heading into the Championship and across Europe whilst Premier League discards are mulled over. Even the unattainable Ivan Toney has been discussed but discounted now on cost issues – in any case, his club Al-Ahli aren’t over keen on losing his services.

West Ham’s January business has to be more effective than last winter – or relegation awaits

And it seems the desperation for a new frontman knows no bounds: Irrespective of the outcome, West Ham appear to be bidding in vain for another front man who’s club have zero intention of letting him go this winter.

According to multiple reports over the weekend – including from sources such as  Londonworld.com the Irons are ‘desperate’ to land 22 year old Marcos Leonardo despite his club -Al Hilal – not wanting to sell him.

£22 million, apparently, is the sum already bid by West Ham to no avail: The Said pro-league side have already turned it down flat. Considering the €40 million  that al Hilal paid to Benfica in 2024, turning down David Sullivan’s paltry £22 million offer isn’t really surprising.

According to Londonworld: “They won’t want to lose him and his goals would be hard to replace.”

Successful transfers require a willing seller as well as a willing buyer – it seem the Hammers are again bidding for players whom they have little realistic chance of acquiring. Surely another case of West Ham knocking on the wrong door in their search for an affordable Fullkrug upgrade.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

A mythical front man will likely cost a mythical amount of money, which the WH board will refuse to pay. We will see if anyone in the end follows the advice offered by Maximilian Hahn.

Sullivan has got away with murder over the years and now it has come back to haunt him if he does not spend big this transfer they will go down he had a chance in the summer but did not he thought there would be worse teams than West Ham but there is not so much for the promise of champions league in five years time

Please let’s not buy Toney and certainly not Zirkzee.
1 goal yesterday and suddenly they are raving he has hit form.He would be a massive mistake, not premiereague standard. Let’s not buy someone’s else’s bad purchase.

This happens when you don’t have a decent scouting department. You need a list of suitable and affordable players for every position that is constantly being updated. You need local scouts in the smaller foreign leagues who are checking for talented players. And you pay them to watch matches all over the place.
Other clubs with smaller budgets can do it. Why can’t West Ham? Because they are run by amateurs.
