Hammers target could be in limbo

West Ham target Sam Johnstone could end up in limbo over his current contract situation, according to a new report from The Athletic.

The Hammers have made a bid for the goalkeeper, which totalled around £6m, though that was knocked back by the Baggies.

West Brom are planning for him to leave the club, according to the report, as they have already earmarked David Button as the player to step into his role at the Hawthorns this season.

Johnstone has been linked with various other clubs after impressing last season and forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Albion are said to be aware that this is their last chance to receive a fee for the player as his current contract expires next summer, and if he doesn’t move for a significant price this summer, he will likely go for nothing once the campaign ends.

West Brom have subsequently lowered their asking price for him, from £20m to closer to £12m.

It remains to be seen if the Irons will be willing to up their bid…

  1. If we really want him, make a proper offer please DS because if they have come down from 20m to 12m then an offer of 6m is just posing for the cameras.

  2. Your going to lose out. At 12 mil Arsenal will be back in for him.
    Ramsdale £30 mil
    Johnstone £12 .mil
