Hammers to prioritise signing a striker

|

boleyninsiderThe club’s ITK has confirmed that the club will turn their attentions to a proven goal scorer once a centre back is announced later this week widely tipped to be Angelo Ogbonna.

Speaking via his regular column the Boleyn Insider announced “My understanding is when the fourth new signing is announced, the Club will turn their attentions to signing another striker/goalscorer.”

One name regularly linked in recent reports is Seydou Doumbia from Roma with some suggesting the Serie A side are willing to let the 27-year-old leave  in order to fund a move for Edin Dzeko.

The Ivory Coast international spent a five-year spell in Russia with CSKA Moscow, where he scored 61 goals in 95 games before moving to Serie A in January. He has struggled to recreate his best form for Roma  scoring just two goals in 13 games.

However the Daily Express claim the club are set to sign another Roma striker, 24 year old Mattia Destro on loan.

The Times have suggested West Ham have joined the race for FC Sion’s highly-rated Senegalese striker Moussa Konaté. The 22-year-old  scored 22 goals from 33 appearances through all competitions for the Swiss outfit last season.

Just get another quality striker in,we cant rely on Sakho & Carroll, both injury prone.I will be proper ****ed off if we have no strikers again for yet another season.Im mean proper ****ed off 😀

  • kennycandb says:

Very disappointed DS has not pulled the stops out for Austin or Remy. Both are injury free and prolific goal scorers. I know Austin is expensive But 20 goals will push us up the league meaning higher PL payout at the end of the season (and maybe another go at Europe). I am just worried, seeing some of the candidates being banded about that we will end up with another Maiga!

  • ChickenRunner says:

We need one,a proper good striker, not some on loan journeyman that we normally end up with. You aint going to have the top 5 looking over their shoulders at us if you dont bring in a quality striker DG.Show us you mean business, match the big statements with action.

  • twinkle toes nolan says:

Yes,pls sign a good striker,we need one badly with AC & Sakhos injurys last season.Need someone more than capable of filling in.Not another Carlton or Maiga who fills the position on the pitch but that is about all!

  • essexclarets says:

There is no point just going out & buying a big money striker to keep us happy. Remy has turned us down twice before so imho he can fkuc off, Austin is good but not worth £15m, had a good season with qpr & scored 18 league goals mainly because everyone else at the club were utter sh#t & couldn’t give a toss. The transfer window has only been open for 8 days so whats the big panic??

    • twinkle toes nolan says:

Because anyone worth their salt will be snapped up & the dross will be left over thats why 😉

      • essexclarets says:

There are more than just a handfull of strikers available. This time last year if someone said we are going to buy a little known player called Sakho from Metz for £2.5m, how many fans would be saying “ffs, who the hell is this?” Our whole season success does not depend on signing Austin.

        • twinkle toes nolan says:

I never mentioned Austin did i? You did, lol, all i said was could we pls have another quality striker. No mention of Austin anywhere in my comment 😉

          • essexclarets says:

I was using Austin as an example, there is no rush to get a striker in is what i’m getting at. Be it Austin, Remy or whoever, take our time & get the right player in who fits the way Bilic wants to play. The squad is being strengthened in all areas, the fact we are now actively looking for a forward/attacking player is the reason so many players are being linked with us. It is in my opinion that both players mentioned by some (not you i know) aren’t the ones that will be the best option.
            now i’m of to bed………….zzzzzz

I’m with you on Remy Essex as for Austin I honestly don’t know but I can’t see that money being spent so my hunch is a loan deal but with an option to buy someone young with a point to prove as opposed to a journeyman

  • HamburgHammer says:

Well, Austin scored 18 league goals despite having to play in a crap team.
Playing in a better team he might score more goals which would render the 15 million required to buy him a bargain.

  • essexclarets says:

Mattia Destro has been thrown about today, could steal him from under Arsenal’s nose which would be worth seeing 😀

  • salesb says:

please please please please let us sign Doumbia, love that man, he’s the new attacking option that we need up front

  • canchaz says:

Confirms the pattern that quickly became obvious once Bilic took over the reins. He is working through his list of priorities one at a time, with a striker decision at the bottom, until he had a good handle on both the fitness and ability of what we already have

  • GW says:

ITK ( in the know) or (Internet transfer knowledge) regurgitates the same old **** again and again. Coupled with Bradders the mystic eye they have been the funniest thing in the transfer window so far with there 72 hours we’ll sign someone new who will shock us all statements, even funnier are those who thank them for there inside info and ask more questions like a small child asking for an ice cream, please please please please Bradders tell me more ,I need to find out more so I can look on Wikipedia and watch YouTube so I can sound important discuss his stats and where he would fit into the formation I think we’ll play….

  • bubs says:

Columbia would be a great buy or loan as he can play up top by his self but like Valencia out wide as well,I do like a striker with a turn of pace,
We could then let Jarvis and Downing go and bring some money back in and free up wages,

  • 646566 says:

I think that the board have been saving for this window for a couple of years , knowing we will need a strong squad to make sure we remain in the premier league before our move to the OS . I would not be surprised if we see a couple more big money signings before the window closes and they are making sure they are the right ones . Of course I might be wrong but I don’t think we have spent really big for a couple of seasons so maybe I might be right . I live in hope COYI

    • Lt. Quickdrawovic 1st Slavalry C&H Regt says:

Loving your optimism and the name 646566 be nice in the future if someone calls themselves 161718. I think there might be a nice surprise before the window shuts mind you I thought Paolo Futre would be a great signing lol

    • essexclarets says:

It will also cost a lot to try & replace all the one dimenional dross ### brought into the club, as usual he has left a club with aload of his crap. From what we have seen so far this summer the board recognise this & are doing their best to correct & clear up the debris.

  • LJ says:

I do not understand how anyone can say Austin is not worth 15 mil!

The guy is 26, scored 18 goals in the PREMIER LEAGUE for a struggling team and PROVED to be consistent over the entire season. This is 3 less goals than Harry Kane, who played more games and for a better team with more chances and 50mil figure is being floated around for him (yes 5 years younger I know!)

Compare that to Remy. same price, 2 Years Older, 14 goals for Newcastle, 7 for Chelsea in 21 games (although from the bench a lot of the time).

Compare that to Carroll – 17 million. Same age as austin, never scored more than 11 goals in a season in the premier league and as we know injured all the time.

To me Austin is great value for money (in terms of premier league spending 15 million for anything is a joke in real life!).

    • Stingray Stewart says:

Totally agree LJ.He is a proven goal scorer everywhere he has been. You cant teach that,it is a natural ability. It will be someone elses gain not ours wherever he moves to 😉

  • mattefumi happy hippie says:

Yes LJ, I agree with you… And I’ll tell you more: in my opinion Austin is worth more than 15 mil. 😉

  • TysonM says:

If Lukaku went for £28m last season then how the **** is Austin not worth half of that.Clubs in the Championship last season were asking 8/9m for ****ing Gestede & Deeney.Blackburn rate Rhodes at 11/12m,McCormack went to Fulham for 13m.The fee or assumed fee for Austin is naff all in comparision 😉

  • Tony gore says:

Plenty of good strikers in a box of swan vestas.
