Hammers transfer battle with Arsenal

West Ham United are rumoured to be  in a transfer battle with Arsenal for Villarreal CF forward Samuel Chukwueze.

The Nigerian has been in outstanding form in La Liga this season and it looks like there will be plenty of interest in him during the next transfer window, with some news outlets in Spain suggesting the player is on Real Madrid’s radar too.

Some of the Spanish daily sports newspapers are reporting ‘significant interest’ in bringing Chukwueze to London, with The Hammers among the leading contenders to sign the forward for £35m.

Chukwueze would certainly seem to fit the criteria of a David Moyes forward far more than Gianluca Scamacca who has suffered with injury. The Italian has also failed to fully convince in the West Ham team even when fit and rumours of a return to Italy persist.

If The Irons are to bring the Villarreal forward to The London Stadium they may face a transfer battle with Arsenal who are also believed to be interested in the player. The North London club are thought to be keen to find adequate back-up to Gabriel Jesus who has suffered with injury during this campaign.

Whilst it would appear obvious that Chukwueze would choose Madrid or Arsenal over West Ham, it is thought the player has concerns about playing regular first team football. Speaking to the Spanish media his agent indicated that a move to a ‘big’ club may not be best for the players development.
