West Ham Could Once Again Lose Out to the Makems
Sunderland are pulling out all the stops to complete the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic—despite interest from West Ham.
The newly promoted Black Cats are believed to have agreed the framework of a deal worth around £21.5 million with Chelsea and are pushing hard to finalise terms quickly. In contrast, West Ham’s interest has so far been limited to proposing a loan deal—falling well short of what’s on offer from the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are looking to land the Serbian international as part of a major summer rebuild, and their recruitment team are said to be working at full tilt to get the deal done before West Ham even get off the starting line.
It’s already been a busy week on Wearside. Sunderland have confirmed the arrival of midfielder Habib Diarra from Strasbourg—the same Senegalese midfielder West Ham had scouted as a priority target for Graham Potter’s system. Hammers scouts watched Diarra during his appearance against England, in a game where they also spotted El Hadji Malick Diouf, now a target to replace Emerson.
But while West Ham dithered, Sunderland struck. Diarra joined the Black Cats in a deal worth just over €30 million, leaving the Irons empty-handed.
Now, it looks like history could repeat itself. With Sunderland offering Chelsea cold, hard cash for Petrovic, and West Ham reportedly only on the table with a loan proposal, the writing might already be on the wall.
The Makems are moving fast—and the Irons may once again end up as collateral damage.
So frustrating as a westham fan now
Amazing how entitled and arrogant some fans are. WHU splurged big under Loptegui and bought utter @@@@@…self inflicted. Dodgy bros Gold and Sullivan wangled a top draw taxpayer funded stadium for a pittance and they haven’t done a thing to maximise game revenues a la Spurs, Arsenal.
As ye shall sow, so shall ye reap
Let them have him…..were we even in for him ? Don’t think so,thought we were after the Leicester keeper….21 mill is way too steep anyway
This is just going to keep happening it seems as in reality there isn’t money available until we sell despite the rumour there was.
We are going to end up pressured to accept low offers to get anyone in if it isn’t too late.
Amateur, really amateur.
Contrast with last Summer when a strong link came up and Steiden most times got the player in. Unless you start the process with finance it’s a waste of everyone’s time and interest.
Steiden knew what he was doing and had funds. Not sure anyone now knows what they are doing and no funds.
Best just better to switch off and wait to see who is in the team for the first game because it’s going to be so frustrating.
I think there’s only two teams that haven’t made a transfer yet that’s Us & Villa. I understand that we need to sell before we buy otherwise if none go we will be paying out around £2 million a week in dead wood players wages. But I hope in the next week we can see players leaving giving us a chance to start bringing players in I’m hoping as soon as one goes it might start a domino effect with 3/4 going and then we can start chasing Potters targets with some financial backing behind us.
I have seen nothing to suggest that sulli has changed his behaviour gonzo, I fear we will obfuscate, prevaricate and eventually miss out on the opportunity to sign targets highlighted by potter and Macauley,, I do think they’ll get one maybe two players they want so sulli can say we got your players for you but then he’ll revert to his tried, tested and (in many cases) failed policy of favoured agent driven incomings. Would anyone be surprised to see aging, injury prone but premier league experienced striker(s) arriving and being heralded as a great signing? I really hope I’m wrong but I’m not in any way confident I will be incorrect.
