Hammers turn attention to PL midfielder

West Ham are set to step up their interest in Newcastle defensive midfielder Isaac Hayden after the apparent collapse of a deal involving Barcelona’s Andre Gomes.

With Gomes seemingly now on his way to Everton, attention has switched to Hayden who is very keen to move south for family reasons.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has been keeping a careful eye on his position and Mario Husillos is ready to do the negotiating having already sounded out his position.

The 24 year old has made 50 appearances for The Toon and is likely to cost around £15 million should Newcastle decide to let him go.

There have been many rumours involving Jonjo Shelvey but with the player having suffered various injury problems interest has cooled.

Hayden is younger and with Pellegrini determined to beef up the defensive midfield area a deal could be agreed with the player having personal reasons for wanting away from the club.

  1. Exactly which of our midfielders is he an upgrade on? £15 mill is ridiculous.

  2. be still my beating heart. number one requirement here was better than Nobes. He isn’t

  3. It’s starting to look as though we’re shopping in bargain basement. Problem is, nobody is a bargain in the Premier League. If we are doing it on the cheap. Surely there’s better value for 15m somewhere in Europe or further afield? Lanzini cost 11m but we had to do our research (Slav did). Getting somebody who hasn’t particularly shone in a Premier League side that finished lower than us doesn’t fill me with confidence that he’s better than what we have and if we’re not buying better than what we have, what’s the point? We may as well use Cullen, Powell and Coventry.

  4. Personally I think Hayden would be a good buy as he has a good engine

  5. Sorry but nearly all of the players mentioned over the last few weeks are players from teams that have been relegated or they are not wanted for some reason ..we keep hearing it isn’t about the money and you can get good players for !ow money and yes you can but it dosnt happen a lot …this has everything to do with the budget IMO because the players mentioned are average at best and are not the quality players needed to push us on ..

  6. So do Cullen, Powell and Coventry.
