Hammers turn down Palace enquiry

Defender Ben Johnson will be staying at West Ham after the Hammers today turned down an enquiry for him  from Crystal Palace.

As Claret and Hugh revealed over the last seven days, the club intend to offer the homegrown player a new deal after a big upturn in his form over recent weeks.

He came off the bench as a midfield sub  during the game at Sheffield United and was mightily impressive adding another string to the right and left back roles he has produced in the past.

And with Vladimir Coufal suspended from Thuursday night’s game against Bournemouth it looks likely that the 24 year old will slot into his role on the right side of the defence.

Palace – seeing that the player was out of contract in the summer – made an enquiry today according to The Athletic but say the approach was immediately knocked back by the Hammers,

As revealed by our insiders the club are now keen to offer him a new deal and will sort that out over the next few weeks and there is no chance of a pre-deadline day sale.

It makes perfect sense to keep Johnson at the club given his versatility and he has a real chance of landing a long term deal now with the club having offered only a one year extension to Coufal who is understood to be unhappy as a result.
