Hammers United makes its position clear

News that Hammers United have launched a survey on fans requirements and preferences prompted ClaretandHugh to ask the group a question that has been on our minds for some time.

The group has been active in organising protests against the board whom they want replaced whilst at the same time calling for meetings on fan representation within West Ham.

That had seemed to be a somewhat Jekyll and Hyde scenario with the owners hardly likely to be prepared to offer such a situation to those who want to replace them.

Committee member Andrew Byrne reacting to our inquiry said: “Hammers United is an FSA affiliate independent supporters association who would like to be involved in independent dialogue with the club to represent the views of our members.

This dialogue might include all manner of operational aspects of the running of the club that affect the experience of supporters. For example, conversations around ticketing, match-day travel, stewarding, mascots, merchandise etc.”

Indeed, all of the above are within their survey which is now online for supporters to complete should they so choose.

He added: With reference to our stance as a group, we are currently calling for new ownership. We are happy to work with the staff employed by the club on matters such as those listed above, in the hope that we can assist our members, but in the long-term, we feel it is imperative that someone new is at the helm.

If a meeting with the owners were to be convened we would wish to make our position clear and, in the absence of that meeting, we continue to make that position clear through protest.

While we do hold the position that we would like to see new ownership, we don’t believe this stops us from working with other individuals at the football club and supporting all other aspects of the football club.”

  1. If you owned the club and it was your money tied up in it, why would you want to talk to the people that were doing everything they could to Disrupt and get rid of you?

    • Hi Vic.We protested last weekend mate, and we protested this weekend..In the days in between the club met us to discuss the return to football.

    • Point well made…… and the MOST crucial point…
I haven’t been the biggest supporter of this board and I’ve thrown as much muck as the next man at them… But…TBH the longer this has gone on, the less real sense it makes, because fundamentally we are Supporters and Supporters want to see their team win, and doing well wherever they may play.
That’s what we’re doing right now and Everyone can see this… Why would anyone want to protest when things are going well, with a real sense of stability for this club on the horizon?
As long as this board are backing our manager as much as they are able to, that’s all we can ask… Until the next Billionaire rocks up wanting to turn us into Citeh or Chelski 🤔

      • The Cat.SWe are all west ham supporters mate and love West ham to win.But West Ham won well yesterday mate yet over 100 have joined hammers united today. Our campaign is not results based. We want meaningful dialogue with the board and change in ownership whether our team are top -or bottom., winning or losing..

  2. I think Gold & Sullivan will sell up when the time is right and hopefully for the good of the club. After all, they are supposed to be Hammers fans.
IMHO they have done alright since taking over from the Icelandic owners. Of course it hasn’t been perfect but they have taken some very difficult decisions to try and take West Ham challenging for a top 6 place. As I have said before, first of all, I will settle for winning more than we lose.

    • Hi mate.
It is great that the team are doing well. But Hammers United campaign has nothing to do with the team;s results.Indeed 100 have joined up today on the back of a great win.-We support the team, not the regime.

      • We are giving HU coverage because it’s the right thing to do as a website which considers it should cover all sides. However, I’m still confused how
the board will sit down and offer representation to a group that wants them out of office. Seems a little odd Paul.

        • Nevertheless Hugh ,,they met us last week and further meetings are being arranged.

          • Who met – HU and the board? Or do you mean the FSA met them whom you support? If so that’s my point, There’s one group wanting to speak with the board and another who supports them wanting the board out. I’m noy sure that will work out will it? He says in his quote that they want to make it clear to the board that they would prefer them to move aside so how would representation take place in those circumstances

          • Hugh. Hammers united met with them.If you EMail me I will give you my number and we can have a chat.Thanks.Paul.

  3. Might have more success and satisfaction amongst members if directing all efforts into creating AFC West United. 100% supporter funded and owned. Best of all worlds.

  4. I’ve been following the club since 1984. For me G&S are the best owners we have had in that time. I’d like someone to tell me who has been better and which clubs currently have better ownership so I understand what the protesters are aspiring too?

    • Well said Legin,a point I have raised before. Best owners I can remember in 50 odd years. Why would the owners want dialogue with people out to undermine them beats me.

  5. Choice between current owners and protesters? Owners because they are not from Russia, Arab States, Thailand and China. All these have appalling human rights records. That leaves USA and they will take more money out of the club than current owners could dream of!
My message to protesters is if you hate what’s happening then go elsewhere!
