Hammers up Gomes offer

|

West Ham have made a new £20 million offer for Andre Gomes as Manuel Pellegrini attempts to ramp up the pressure on Barcelona for the defensive midfielder.

ClaretandHugh has learned the club are prepared to go higher if required with the manager determined to play the 25-year-old alongside Declan Rice if he is successful in landing the player.

And although the club has heard the same rumours that Everton are easing off in their pursuit of the player they are not taking such speculation too seriously.

We were told by a highly placed source on the phone: “It’s all cat and mouse at this stage of the summer so we can only press on with our own plans. However, a new £20 million bid has been made.

“The manager sees Gomes as his number one target but whatever happens there – and we are hopeful of a deal – a defensive midfielder alongside Declan is a priority.

“We also want to bring in a striker but everything in terms of negotiations for players remains in the hands of the manager and director of football.”

Just don’t see it and very disappointed with this signing. Everton have no interest in signing him which just says it all. We have a defensive midfielder in Rice, we don’t need two of them. We need a player who can go from box to box which Gomes is certainly not. We are not going to improve our team by signing similar players. The only read I can take from this is that Rice could be sold and Gomes is his replacement because otherwise it makes no sense.

If they really wanted him they wouldnt be putting low bids in …they want 25_30 and we have bid 15 and 18 so I’ve heard.. We put low bids in a lot last season and all it does is get clubs backs up..it’s fine trying to save a few quid but our bids are always ridiculous y low ….not even sure why We are doing this ..we have needed a out an out striker fo r years and we still havnt got one …this is what happens when given hardly any budget ..silly low bids and average at best player’s
