Hammers win in EFL Cup

West Ham have advanced to the third round of the EFL Cup, where they will play either Leeds United or Hull City.

David Moyes’ side won comfortably against a game Charlton Athletic side, managed by ex-Hammer Lee Bowyer.

The Hammers made a number of changes to their usual starting XI, bringing in Darren Randolph in goal, Ben Johnson at right-back, and Josh Cullen and Robert Snodgrass in midfield. Both Harrison Ashby and Conor Coventry came off the bench to cameo.

West Ham opened the scoring on 22 minutes, as Sebastien Haller tapped home after fine build-up play from both Cullen and Andriy Yarmolenko.

The Frenchman then added his second with a towering header, leaping high in a packed area to bullet the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

Felipe Anderson then completed the scoring on 80 minutes, after Manuel Lanzini dribbled past a number of Charlton defenders before laying it off to the Brazilian.

Leeds and Hull will play on Wednesday, when the Hammers will learn their opponents in the next round.
