Hammers’ wonderkid deal now off the table | Report

Back in January, amidst West Hams ‘changing of the guard’ as Lopetegui was fired and Graham Potter took control, West Ham were negotiating a deal for one of their prized assets. Whether it was luck, or whether there was an inkling of the trouble ahead of Crysencio Summerville, The Hammers stalled on the deal with Feyenoord- and then as Potter assumed overall responsibility, the deal was vetoed.

Luckily for the club, the Luis Guilherme sale was not rubber -stamped and the Brazilian remained at the club.

Even though game time has been scarce under Potter, Guilherme has had enough exposure as an occasional substitute to show what he’s made of and indicate that he may well be able to step up in Mohammed Kudus’ absence on the left hand side, at least until Summerville’s recovery enables a start for the Dutchman later in September.

In any case, the £20 + million offer from dutch club Feyenoord that was on the table last January  is no longer, even if the Hammers wanted to reconsider cashing in on their wonderkid.

Luis Guilherme

According to sportwitness.co.uk in their article:

“Feyenoord are unlikely to revive their interest in West Ham United youngster Luis Guilherme” :

The report sets out the rise of  their own talented youngster : “Feyenoord have seen their own young talent Anis Hadj Moussa rise to the fore, meaning their focus is no longer on Guilherme.

Which means Guilherme is more than likely to be staying a Hammer this summer: Few clubs were rushing in with a £20 million cheque and West Ham are unlikely to let him go for less, providing their hoped-for deal for Mohammed Kudus gives the Irons the cash they need for this summer’s spending.

Which in a way is good news: Guilherme still needs to have a decent chance to show what he’s made of: I don’t recollect him having a starting spot once in the whole season. Selling him on would seem like a wasted opportunity which the Hammers might just come to regret.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

  • Timbo says:

Keep him and give him a proper chance next season. Clearly we have work to do on the midfield and centre forward positions but Bowen, Summerville and Luis as the wide attacking options is still an exciting prospect. When we bought him I thought he was the eventual Kudus replacement and that may still prove to be a very smart move.

Can someone please confirm how many ‘Wonderkids’ we now actually have because I haven’t seen much evidence of them?

  • JohnE says:

Agreed. Needs to be given a chance this season.

    • Jon says:

Sullivan would rather sell him at a loss than see this kid come good and prove Tim was right to sign him!

  • JH says:

He’ll come good. Every player brought in by TS was quality.

    • Time for Change says:

We will miss Tim big time this summer. He was able to negotiate and get deals done. We now have to rely on gifts from Sullivan that will be dumped on Potter whilst C&H and the club try to pin on the manager.

Sound familiar? We’ve been here before during Sullivan’s reign.

  • HammerDan says:

Guillherme might be the next £80m player, but will Potter ever give him the fame time to find out?

Or will we only find out he’s an £80m player in the making once he’s left West Ham…… this is more likely given our track record!!

    • Hammerdan says:

      Game time

    • Time for Change says:

Both JLo and Potter claimed they wanted to play young dynamic players but ignored this kid.

Did Sullivan instruct both to limit his minutes as he wanted Tim out and then avoid further embarrassment by not playing this kid to justify his dismal appointments?

Sullivan might be a midget but he has one hell of a big ego!

      • B says:

You think Sullivan picks the starting XI…? LoL 😂

Guilherme only just turned 19, he wasn’t ready for starting minutes, simple.

        • Time for Change says:

I don’t think he picks the team at all. But I do believe there was and still is an agenda with players signed by Tim. Todibo, Fullkrug and the young Brazilian kid all share the same negativity constantly aired on C&H

Do you think this a coincidence?

  • Dave gold says:

He’s a clas splayed, shame about the owners and their choices of management. Should’ve kept Tim SULLIVAN OUT

    • Time for Change says:

Shame Tim didn’t get to choose the coach to replace Moyes and have full control of signing players.

We would not have signed Kilman & Rodriguez, had to endure JLo or the dismal boring football under Potter either.

Obviously Sullivan & Brady know better tho 🤦‍♂️

      • B says:

So you’d prefer West Ham to have appointed Rubin Amorin?

Ask Man Utd fans how that’s going…..

        • Time for Change says:

I’d much rather Glasner, Hoeness or the guy at Brighton 100%.

Do you think JLo was an inspirational choice by Sullivan?

    • Bennyboy baker says:

The kid deserves a chance to show what he can do he has the potential to become a great player he’s young and can move quickly has a eye for goal yet he gets ignored by both JLO and potter selling him would be a big mistake he will come back to haunt us he may well be a cult hero in the making he has the skill set so give him a chance to prove his worth

  • Dutch Courage says:

He doesn’t necessarily need starts but at least give him regular opportunities with say 20 minutes or so. Make the kid feel wanted.
