Former West Ham player and manager Harry Redknapp continues to entertain ITV viewers on I am a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here with his tall tales. The 71-year-old is a showman who has been the early bookies favourite at 5/2 to be crowned the early king of the jungle.
Last night he described how he thought Quail was a fish saying that scrambled egg over the cafe was as exotic as his food usually gets at home.
Arry told the story about how he met his wife of 54 years Sandra at a Stratford pub called Two Puddings.
“
Me and my mate Macca, he was a goalkeeper for West Ham saw these two lovely girls and I said to Macca shall we have a dance with those two. Macca is a good looking geezer and I look back on it now and think Sandra must have seen us both coming over and thought ‘I hope I aint got him’ and she went for me, 54 years later we’re still going strong. And Macca ended up as an undertaker so really Sandra had the better deal in the long term.”
The ‘Macca’ Redknapp is referring is former Hammers keeper Colin Mackleworth. He joined the Hammers in 1962 as an apprentice. He played in West Ham’s Youth Cup winning side of 1963 making his first-team debut in December 1966 in a 4-0 home win against Blackpool. Serving as understudy to regular goalkeeper, Jim Standen, he made only three appearances; his last being in a famous Manchester United 6-1 victory at Upton Park in which Manchester United won the 1966-67 Football League trophy. He left West Ham in November 1967 and joined Leicester City.
Harry got one part of his story wrong, Macca joined the Police force after he left professional football serving at Bow police station where he was often on duty at West Ham’s Boleyn Ground. Let’s not let the truth spoil a good story though.
I am Celebrity returns tonight on ITV at 9 PM for more fun and tales from Harry
