Hat-trick hero Bowen stops the rot

West Ham 4 Brentford 2

Well,. it’s been one hell of a time coming but this really was worth waiting for as the Hammers grabbed a superb first victory in nine attempts! And it was hat trick hero Jarrod Bowen who stopped the rot.

Jarrod took the honours with his first treble ever in senior football to give the Hammers a so desperately required win. The Bees had been hit by four or five injuries to first team regulars  but we can’t let that affect our view of the Hammers performance. They were great tonight.

The lads produced a performance of the type which they had received from Arsenal in that 0-6 drubbing before the most lifeless of performances at Nottingham Forest.

The BIG question is why they haven’t adopted this approach before and can we expect to see it for the remainder of the season. We will soon find out at Everton this weekend.

West Ham had the first serious chance when Soucek somehow managed to put a shot over the top from six yards before Bowen received a fine cross from JWP to swoop home his shot from inside the area.

The No 20 made it 2-0 a at the end of a fine move two minutes later involving Kudus and Coufal heavily involved.

It was a lightning start but six minutes later fragility at the back allowed Brentford to reduce the arrears when Maupay swept home his shot.

It was great stuff to watch for a change but the worry was that this was the first time the Hammers defence had been tested and they possibly let themselves down.

Paqueta was involved in most of the attacking movement but when his own chance came he shot wide from 20 yards before Kudus did the same.

The second half saw Kudus at his best and it was the Ghana international who provided a great centre for Bowen’s headed third followed by another from Emerson finding the net from 18 yards from a Brentford half cleared ball.
