“He Punched Me in The Face” | Erm . . . Van de Ven Goes a Bit OTT

Perhaps I’ve been doing Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven a disservice following Spurs’ 4-1 victory.

I had been under the impression that the 6ft 3in central defender went to ground a little too easily after his altercation with Hammers winger Mohammed Kudus. My memory may be playing tricks on me, as I seem to recall the Dutchman pushing Kudus in the chest before the Ghanaian, with less aggression, pushed him back in the face.

The Spurs centre-back then fell to the ground like a sack of spuds (yeah, I know, sorry), writhing in faux agony, clutching his face in an attempt to make the contact appear more damaging than it actually was.

However, it seems I got it completely wrong, and MVDV was in fact the innocent victim of a brutal attack involving a punch to the face. Presumably, the strike was so quick that it escaped detection by the professional broadcast cameras’ present, but since Micky said it happened, I guess it’s gospel.

Describing the traumatic assault, Van de Ven said: “He tried to kick the ball but hit me twice, three times. I was obviously a bit mad in this situation, and I stood up and pushed him, and then the situation escalated from his side.

“He literally punched me in the face as I went down! To be honest, I don’t know what happened afterward; I didn’t really see what happened.”

Bless him, the tough defender was clearly too concussed to recall what happened next. But perhaps Kudus should just be thankful the convenient amnesia didn’t lead to further embellishments of the story.

Just to add, if somebody could please explain the definition of the word ‘literally’ to VDV in may help in the future.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

His amnesia made him forget he grabbed kudus with both hands pulling his shirt up round his neck standing a foot about him and here’s that word again literally taking his breath and a situation like that your nervous system kicks in fight or flight,he couldn’t flight because he was being held so it was fight and adrenaline kicked in so he lashed out to get free ,long winded I know but that is science

  • Pongo says:

Van de ven was the instigator in this whole melee, let’s be honest it was handbags at 3 paces, but as vdv started the whole thing he is equally as guilty if not more so than kudus, this sort of thing needs to be clamped down on by the authorities, and the solution is simple any player who instigates this sort of thing should be deemed the culprit of what followed and they ought to receive the biggest punishment, for me if kudus gets a 6 game ban vs should get a 10 game ban.

Yes, Pongo, you are correct, VdV started it by being too quick & too strong for Bowen, then the same Kudus, who then shoved him over & kicked him up the a*se twice.

It was all VdV, this should clearly be flipped & VdV should face 6 matches on the sidelines for his outrageous & less than becoming behaviour.

Nobody was punched, Kudus did push two of their players in the face counts as violent conduct so always a red card. There is a case for players reactions to be examined and penalised where appropriate.

  • Phil Baker says:

Kudus tried to kick the ball when Van Der Ven was on the ground and then he stood up and assaulted Kudus and Kudus tried to fend him off , then the whole Spurs team rushed in and fell over , quite comical , could be a Monty Python sketch .

I never like losing to the Spuds but it certainly eased the pain watching those cheating clowns falling over like 9 pins – I honestly believe they must practise these antics.

Ain’t Aussies supposed to be tough he men postecoglou must have thought what have got playing for their like a couple of Sheila’s

  • Hammeroo says:

I just hope Kudus hasn’t been inspired by Paqueta with his ‘knack’ of picking up cards for totally unnecessary incidents. I wonder if anybody has looked for unusual betting activity prior to the match? LOL

Sadly, it didn’t need to happen, Kudus lost the ball & the match was already lost. Yes, he showed a bit of passion, however, at the cost of what, making life more difficult for a team that’s already struggling, what does that solve? It just exasperates things.

True, VdV made a meal of it, poor show, this said, Kudus kicked & slapped then gave Sarr some more of the latter, what a frickin’ idiot & gets banned for 6-9 games.

West Ham might have won a handicapped trophy, let’s all be honest, even as fans, it was nice, but the big boys have their eyes on other prizes, this incident was “toys out of the pram”, given this, is this a sign Kudus wants to stick around, West Ham will earn money from him, but he’s difficult to replace.

Petty arguments over who did what it will be sorted by a panel who will make there decision and the result will be what we have to live with ,move on we can’t change anything as real fans . Love the club and hope we can progress.

  • Hammered says:

Think kudus should get 6 match min ban. Pains me to say

  • Madcaplaughs says:

I can see why you call yourself ‘Gonzo.’ You seem to have overlooked that Clueless kicked Ven de Ven twice while the Spurs defender was on the ground, before pushing him in the face. Not content with that Clueless then pushed Sarr in the face. Clueless is a muppet who should face a six match ban.

    • John simmonds says:

He’s about a foot taller and a good few stones heavier. Bless him. I wonder if his mum and dad are proud or embarrassed. He should take up acting

    • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Yawn, crying spud wipe your potato eyes ! There’s a reason you win f all, none of your players or fans have a backbone. Your idea of victory is losing to teams so the Gooners can’t win the league, your manager is disgusted by spud fans attitude and lack of desire to win. Probably why when you see a player unhappy at losing it are so shamed by the passion you come to try and troll us winners !!!

      • Gonzo says:

Actually, that is a good point.

For all Arsenal’s flair players, there is a toughness about them. Gabriel, Saliba, Rice and quite a few others are scrappers rather than feigners of injury which is probably whey they have the edge of Spurs.

    • Gonzo says:

Well that really wasn’t the point my friend as you are fully aware.

Kudus rightly deserved his marching orders . . . however, he did not punch anybody which is clearly the evidence and mitigation offered by VDV.

Accuracy is important otherwise anybody can make up anything about anybody. Kudus most definitely pushed two people and had a little kick in frustration. But if you’re honestly suggesting a big punch was landed with enough force to fell VDV then you are mistaken.

    • FrankieMacsBack says:

Clearly you’re a Spud invader with your poor attempts at humour. No need to defend Gonzo as he has blocked me on Hammers Chat (very petty),however, that’s his name you genuine puppet! 🙄
