Here we go again – Iron star man on the move

Sadly we are at it again – the Rice to Chelsea saga drags on courtesy as usual of The Sun.

In the absence of any transfer stories, given we haven’t even finished the Premier League season, and that the window won’t open for around another month, it would normally be a surprise that a story can be repeated for the umpteenth time.

The latest tale  can be found at https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11972260/chelsea-rice-transfer-lampard-45m-centre-back/ and we’ll leave you to make what you will of it.

But as far as we can see the only difference to what has gone before is that the Sun  has decided to knock around £30 million off the expected asking price of around £75 million.

One assumes this has been done to give credibility to the story following the financial damage caused to prices in the transfer market by Covid 19.

However, an England international who can perform as admirably in defensive midfield or central defence won’t be going anywhere for that money.

The club have made it clear his price will only rise over the next couple of years although nobody would be unrealistic enough to believe that if we are relegated he may not be on his way somewhere.

However, if that should be the case it certainly won’t be at the price quoted in this piece of recycled ‘news.’

  1. It’s the Sun . Says it all really. Seem to just keep repeating same thing over and over again. 45
Million – guess someone hit the wrong key ! Apart from anything else imagine the reaction if West Ham sold to Mr Lampard. That would probably be fun !

  2. 99% of the Sun’s opinion on any subject should be read with extreme caution.
Would Declan want to return to a club which considered him inadequate for future development?
If the Russian oligarch decides to sell up, Chelsea could find themselves back where they were years before?
    Think carefully Dec.

  3. You mean division 2 !

  4. I’d be happy for Declan to return to Chelski….

If the compensation is right…. Chelsea have a history of letting hugely promising prospects go elsewhere to become stars (Salah… Ake… DeBruyne ). I’d be OK with tarding one top draw player, and Rice is Top TOP draw, go for 3 future superstars… just MHO though.

Why? Because West Ham may have ‘aspirations’ to go to the next level, but history tells us that ain’t happening as things stand…..
