Football ITK Fabrizio Romano has revealed within the past few minutes that West Ham’s relegation rivals Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Roberto De Zerbi.

Using his catchphrase “here we go”, Romano announced that a deal has been agreed between Spurs and De Zerbi, and he will take charge with immediate effect.

The Italian journalist posted on Twitter: “BREAKING: Tottenham agree deal to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as new head coach, here we go!

Story revealed yesterday now confirmed as De Zerbi has accepted #THFC job with immediate effect.

Five-year deal set to be signed as De Zerbi decides to accept this challenge.”

Five-year deal raises eyebrows amid relegation fight

The five-year deal appears to be something of a surprise given the perilous state of Tottenham. The North Londoners sit just one point ahead of West Ham in the relegation zone.

De Zerbi is understood to have no interest in managing in the Championship. Therefore, it is safe to assume that there will be some sort of relegation release clause allowing him to leave.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

I started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I give West Ham opinions and interviews on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus. Former video and content creator for West Ham United back in the days of Upton Park. I was lucky enough to feature in the documentary broadcast on that final wonderful game at the Boleyn when Winston Reid broke Manchester United hearts.

I frequently feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

As we saw with Nuno it’s not all about the manager. It may depend on when he can get his favoured coaches in and how long it takes the players to adapt to the new methods. For example Andoni Iraola didnt win any of his first 9 games at Bournemouth
