West Ham United are reportedly in concrete talks to sign Hull City goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, according to multiple sources.
The Hammers’ current goalkeeping situation has been shaky, with both Mads Hermansen and Alphonse Areola under scrutiny after a string of poor performances. Despite conceding eight goals in two matches, Hermansen has still been called up to the Danish squad for their opening 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Pandur, who scooped Hull’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player awards, has impressed with six clean sheets and consistent shot-stopping across 44 appearances. West Ham view him as a younger, reliable alternative who could push for the No.1 spot.
Hull City remain reluctant to sell due to EFL transfer restrictions but could be tempted if West Ham table a fee in the region of £5 million.
If the deal is completed, the Irons are expected to loan out either Areola or Wes Foderingham before the window shuts. However, with Areola among the club’s highest earners, any potential loan deal would likely require West Ham to subsidise part of his wages.
It was poor man management of both Areola and Hermansen, as now they probably both feel terrible, though Potter was pretty upbeat based on the preseason games and probably thought of the upside only.
Granted, the first 20 mins against Sunderland I was buzzing as he looked like Beckenbauer with his ball control and passing from the sweeper position, but keeping the incumbent keeper in place for league games and the new one for the cup is a much better approach. He’s still pretty young though, he’ll come good.
This seasons overused phrase is “Concrete talks”. Not quite sure what it is supposed to imply as nothing to do with West Ham is ever “rock solid”.
It was really a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t play Mads Hermansen rather than Alphonse Areola in the matches against Sunderland and Chelsea. If we had managed to win either of them then it would have been an inspired choice because Areola has been so dodgy lately. Let’s hope Mads gets his mojo back soon!
You know we are being really hard on Hermansen The blokes been out injured for 3 months We buy him put him straight into the team after a few days at the club Where I feel it would have been a lot wiser from the manager to slowly introduce him And bear in mind playing in front of him one of the worst defences in the league I’ve watched him in the past trust me we have one hell of a good keeper
100% spot on. Said the same thing on other posts
If it were an outfield player people would be saying he needs minutes to get up to speed, and yet with a keeper he’s thrown straight in with no pre season and out since April.
Poor man management from Potter and his handling of both keepers tbh.
Totally agree Mick. Potter needs to give a little more thought on how Hermansen is assimilated into the team rather than just shove him in at the deep end
Absolutely
