Javier Hernandez has revealed that he did not have a second’s doubt about joining Sevilla.
Indeed, he has made it clear that he wouldn’t have left West Ham for any other club and on the basis of that, the club had no option but to let him move on.
The 31 year old made the switch for around £8 million – a tidy result given that he was on a free next summer which would have seen the Irons get nothing back on their £16 million investment.
And although it has left us a tad short up front, on balance it seems the right decision was made as he became the third of the old guard strike force to move on after Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll.
Hernandez has not offered the sort of body language to suggest that there would have been no other club to interest him over the past few months.
But let’s be generous and take him at his word and he told Medio Tempo of the reasons behind his decision declaring: “This is my tenth season in Europe and what better way to fulfil it than in this club.
Monchi was the one who called me, we talked, and he basically asked me if I would be interested in going to Sevilla.
I think when they ask you that, you don’t doubt it and I said ‘yes, of course’. I told him that if I didn’t go to Sevilla, I was not going to leave the club (West Ham).”
Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, commonly known as Monchi, is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper, and is the sporting director of football of Sevilla.
To be fair to Javier, WHUFC never played him the way that he could be most effective and he still has one of the best goals to minutes played ratio’s of anyone who has ever played at the club. He never pitched a fit about not getting his way, always trained and played, wish him nothing but the best.
Totally agree…⚒
