Hernandez/Lanzini the ‘must’ Turf Moor partnership

It really shouldn’t need saying again but there is one way for Slaven Bilic to save his job via a top eight finish.

Top teams have big players and in Chicharito the Hammers have – for the first time in a long time – a name that’s right up there with the very best.

If you had offered 20/1 on the Mexican being played wide left after we signed him in the summer there would have been very few takers given that the likes of  Jelavic, Emineke, Zaza and Calleri had been given a chance in the role.

Yet with a pedigree to die for, Little Pea has had to settle for a peripheral role with Andy Carroll who has yet to collect a goal, has given one (possibly two away) whilst collecting a couple of yellow cards.

I’ve been surprised by fans of other clubs when meeting them in town – people who rarely mention the Hammers such is their interest in their own team – asking: “Why on earth is your manager not playing Chicharito through the middle.”

Truth is there’s no answer and I am rapidly coming to the point where I am fed up with making excuses for decisions which to most of us are incomprehensible.

Time and again we are being set up not to lose but with Manu Lanzini now ready to be played in an advanced midfield role behind Chicharito is there any reason not to go for it – after all the AC option hasn’t worked has it?

If we are to break down Burnley at the weekend we will neer ed precisely that kind of invention and subtlety given the Clarets defensive record who conversely don’t score that many goals themselves.
