Mohamadou Kanté has received plenty of attention for his excellent performances with West Ham’s U21s this season — and deservedly so.
After it was revealed yesterday that the powerful midfielder had been drafted into senior training by manager Nuno Espirito Santo, many wondered if he might make the matchday squad. With Ezra Mayers featuring on the bench against Newcastle last week, could Kanté be next in line for tomorrow’s clash with Burnley?
However, after speaking to a source at the training ground today, it appears another young player has really caught Nuno’s eye.
Golambeckis Catching the Manager’s Attention
Claret & Hugh were told that Nuno has been “very impressed” with central defender Airidas Golambeckis, who has also been training with the senior team.
The 18-year-old-who has just signed a new deal- has reportedly turned heads at Rush Green, with one insider revealing: “The manager really likes Golambeckis — he’s not looked out of place among the seniors.”
There’s said to be a real buzz around the academy at present, particularly with Steve Potts and Mark Robson now drafted into Nuno’s first-team coaching setup. Combined with Premier League starts handed to Callum Marshall, Ollie Scarles, and Freddie Potts, it’s clear that a genuine pathway from academy to senior football is beginning to take shape under the new boss.
And if Nuno’s early actions are anything to go by, Golambeckis and Kanté could soon be the next names stepping onto that path.

I still haven’t seen anything on Marshall’s absence last week?
playing for the u21’s this eve
Martin I posted a comment earlier which had nothing to do with this post & only posted here as there’s no contact info away from articles written. I’m sure you’ve seen my question so perhaps you’d be good enough to reply as if it’s not true then something should be put out there saying that. Thanks in anticipation of your reply.
Too busy watching the u21 game, Terry. someone else has answered, its fake news. club will be wearing poppy shirts as norm.
Just received very disturbing news that the club won’t have poppies on their shirts this weekend as “it doesn’t align with the clubs values”, tell me this is fake news please.
Looks like it’s fake news mate. If you look on the official site it’s says the players will be wearing shirts with poppies and the club will be laying wreath’s before the game.
Kante playing for u21s tonight (alingside Earthy & Marshall) so not in squad (surely!). Golambeckis not playing tonight so possibly in squad
