England 2-0 Finland: Nations League Group F
Jarrod Bowen once again came off the substitutes’ bench as England beat Finland 2-0 at Wembley in their second Nations League match, following a victory over Ireland by the same scoreline.
The result wasn’t the only similarity to the game at the Aviva Stadium, as England manager Lee Carsley once again deployed West Ham’s Bowen in the striker role. Jarrod replaced England captain Harry Kane, who had scored both goals in a cagey match.
Carsley, Gareth Southgate’s successor, made double substitutions on the wings in both games, but Bowen remained the striker option, giving a clear indication of where Carsley envisions him playing.
England dominated possession and eventually broke down a stubborn Finnish defence, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Angel Gomes looking particularly impressive.
It’s evident that England has an embarrassment of riches in almost every position. However, if Bowen continues to impress, there is every reason to believe he can challenge Ollie Watkins as Harry Kane’s understudy.
It’s about time bowen was given a run in the England team, his far to good to sit on the bench and come on with 15mins to go, clearly Southgate had his favourite players, but he was an awful manager so negative and boring with his tactics how he kept the job so long beggars belief. I’m very honest so was surprised when carsley got the job, but so far he has done well and has picked some exciting talents, and i thought both angel goes and the man city left back played very well, i like madueke as well but he needs to improve his end product but that may well happen when he is playing alongside Cole palmer who when fit must be in the team as must Jack grealish.
