Claret & Hugh have been informed this evening that Nuno Espírito Santo has finally given up hope of keeping Lucas Paquetá at West Ham United.

Nuno had been clinging to the belief that his Brazilian playmaker could yet be persuaded to remain at the London Stadium. Until earlier this afternoon, there was still hope that Paquetá could be loaned back to West Ham in the event of a permanent move to Flamengo.

However, Claret & Hugh have now been told by a reliable source with strong links to the club: “I think Nuno knows he can’t keep Lucas now.”

West Ham Switch Focus to Maximising Fee

West Ham rejected a £35 million offer from Flamengo earlier this afternoon, but it now appears that any attempt to engineer a loan-back arrangement has been abandoned.

Instead, the Hammers are expected to focus solely on securing the highest possible transfer fee for a player who looks increasingly unlikely to pull on a West Ham shirt again.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

He is vastly overrated. Has achieved very little at Hammers apart from cause unrest and disruption. … but we must not give in to his bullying tactics . Stick to our valuation or let him rot .

  • Kenny Irons says:

Be glad when he’s gone – sick of reading about the bloke to be honest, been a liability for ages. Adios, Amigo and good riddance !

  • D says:

Good. Get rid of I prefer Pablo in the 10 role anyway.

  • Custom House Hammer says:

Good riddance. He should have gone ages ago he’s clearly been unhappy for a while hence he’s huge dip in form. Ok he’s had “that” investigation going on but once ended he should have been flying high. He was shown a lot of love & support by the fans & to be fair the club stood by him to but enough is enough. Flicks, tricks (which usually led to losing possession) & theatrical dives won’t save us from relegation.

  • Darkhorse says:

The quicker Paquetá goes is the best outcome for the club. We had the same with Sakho, Arnautovic and Payet, players who don’t deserve a future in the game.

So this isn’t me having a dig at Paquetá.
This is me lamenting a lack of respect.
Well paid, actually, very well paid players in the EPL force their way out of a club and contract.
In my opinion, the buying club should meet the valuation (without haggling), plus they should pay out the remainder of the contract as compensation.
In this instance, we all knew the player saw us as a stepping stone to working under Pep. But hey, we were ok with that because a huge profit was heading our way.
Didn’t happen, got investigated for betting irregularities, the rest is history.
But even so, the club and the fans stood by him.
After being acquitted of the charges he promised us 100%, one more time, for the season.
Never seen 100%, and looks likely not to make the season.
Must be tough grifting from us WHU fans and club for a living.

Paqueta and cards , he’s an incident waiting to happen . Will be happy once he’s gone .
