High optimism as Moyes looks to Anfield and beyond

|

The Hammers are looking for their fifth unbeaten outing on the trot at Liverpool but David Moyes is thinking further ahead even than that.

There is unquestionably a rapidly growing belief in the Hammers squad and Moyes -while admitting it’s some way off – certainly has European football on his long term agenda.

A result at Liverpool certainly isn’t out of the question and the confidence in our squad will hit the roof should we get a point or three.

It will set the team up for a month when we take on the likes of Fulham, Sheffield United and Aston Villa. Those three games represent a test in themselves.

Should we remain unbeaten by the end of November we will have laid some ghosts in our unfortunate history of often stumbling again lesser opposition?

Should we do so we can all start genuinely believing his hopes of recreating an Everton- type Euro scenario may be on the cards.

Speaking at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/30-october/david-moyes-i-sense-different-feel-around-club the manager said: “It’s where we had the best level of success, where we got to European football

“My ambition is to start to take West Ham closer to that, but at the moment, after avoiding relegation [in the past few years], it’s very hard to look that far away.

“But I’m hoping in the future, that’s the direction we’ve got to look and got to go. We have to try to find a way of moving up the league, getting stability,

“At the moment, we’ve only played five or six games this season, so we could easily still be in that situation later on.

“But I sense something different, I sense a different group of players, I sense a different feel around the club. Obviously, we’ve got to hope we don’t get many injuries and stuff like that, but, overall, we can improve on where we were last year.”

Massive challenge today. This game, plus the next 3 will tell us much about the depth, flexibility and potential of our current squad. I’m hoping for a return of at least 8 points. A point at Anfield would be a great start. COYI.
