Hammers academy graduate Kaelan Casey has inadvertently lifted the lid on the type of football West Ham will play next season. During an interview with the official club website, the young central defender revealed the high standards being demanded by new head coach Julen Lopetegui.

Furthermore, Casey remarked on the high-pressing tactics which are being demanded by the new Hammers gaffer during the pre-season training camp in Austria.

The centre back said, “I think the style he has brought is quite a good style for us and everyone on the team, so we are working hard every day to make sure itā€™s a successful one for everyone,” Casey remarked. “Itā€™s quite a high press and youā€™ve got to be fit to play under him, but itā€™s been good.”

“I think everyone is on a clean slate now, so itā€™s just about working hard, trying to impress the manager, and hopefully getting a spot on the team. Lopeteguiā€™s training sessions have been really good. Itā€™s very hot out here and itā€™s been quite tough, but the sessions have been really good as well. Itā€™s been good to have some of the U21s out here as well.

“My ambitions personally are to be in and around the team and to get more appearances, but that is the aim for everyone. We want to do as well as we can in the league and finish as high as we can.”

I think aguerd is a good footballer he passes the ball forward infront of a player moving them forward which didn’t suit moyes ball but could work now

  • John Ayris says:

High press can leave the centre backs exposed therefore you need fast centre backs. Explains why Zouma would be no good, but Aguerd would be.

Are you the Johnny Ayris who played on the wing for us in the 70s? Agree with your comment either way
