History maker Bowen and magical night for Mubama

By Hughie Southon

Hammers 4 Larnaca 0

What a night for Jarrod Bowen and academy product Divin Mubama as the Hammers coasted to a fine victory over Larnaca.

Bowen grabbed two goals to become the Hammers highest ever scorer in our European competitions history while young Mubama got the final touch on a Cresswell corner and Soucek headed knock down to score his first ever goal for the club after arriving as a second half sub.

And it has to be said that despite the Cypriots having nothing much to offer the Hammers looked as good as they have been this season in a fine second half.

A 21st minute goal from the recalled Gianluca Scamacca extended the aggregate score to 3-0 after he had seen an early shot from 2o yards fly wide.

Johnson was then well beaten down the left but the cross was too aggressive and the ball flew to safety.

Paqueta saw a shot well blocked in front of goal after a headed knock down from the very mobile Scamacca.

Bowen tried is luck firing high and wide again after good midfield work from the very involved Lanzini before Fornals hit the crossbar.

The Hammers roared into action after the break with Bowen adding two within three minutes of the break before Mubama touched  home a goal he will remember forever.

The lad looks a proper front man who was always attempting to get behind defenders and the celebrations with his team mates was something to behold.

A word too for Manu Lanzini who produced some really creative work in the second half whilst Maxi Cornet looked sharp at times during his 40 minute or so time on the pitch.

A very decent display despite the opposition not being the greatest.

  1. Wonderful night for the more creative players, Lanzini class, Bowen buzzing and effective. So pleased that Jarrad notched a couple to give him a personal milestone, he thoroughly deserves that. Scamacca putting himself about after injury is a real welcome sight, his link ups were good and so good for him to score even if it was a bit of a scuffer. So delighted for Divin to get on, look a proper striker and get his goal. There are a few lessons for Mr Moyes in playing attacking talent like Cornet and Lanzini, and Mubama, as Mr Busby used to say, if he’s good enough, he’s old enough. Although we were slow at the back with Ogbonna, Cresswell and Johnson, we held firm. You can only beat what’s in front of you, and we did. Comfortably. Deep joy. Courage has its reward, Mr M.
