Only time will tell us whether the hype surrounding Daniel Cummings is justified. At 18 he is yet to play in the Scottish Premier League let alone the English Premier League, so judgements are being made based on his potential.

West Ham have decided not to increase further their offer to purchase him ‘early’ ahead of the finish of his contract at Celtic in the summer. The Hammers had hoped to get an agreement finalised today but Celtic want to keep hold of the youngster until the end of his contract as he is their third-choice striker. (Wouldn’t West Ham just love three choices at present).

So the two clubs could not agree an amount to finish his contract early, it has been confirmed on skysports.com:

“.. the Hammers will no longer pursuing a deal in this window. The 18-year-old has agreed terms on a pre-contract and the Premier League club will look to finalise that this week. Celtic will be due £350,000 in compensation once a pre-contract is completed.”

So Cummings will be joining in the summer. Exciting times ahead for the youngster who is already a Champions’ League veteran having played for Celtic against Aston Villa last week.

Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
