Hopes fade on Tarkowski as third bid fails

David Moyes have seen a third and possibly final bid for James Tarkowski worth £31m turned down by Burnley.

A Sky Sports report claimed the bid was around £25m upfront plus add-ons of £6m  an improvement on the second bid.

Sky Sports say Burnley have told West Ham that their latest offer is still ‘significantly lower’ than their valuation for the player.

Tarkowski has a £50m release clause in his present contract and is believed to be valued at at least £40m by the club.

Tarkowski – who has two years left on his current deal at Turf Moor has been the subject of several bids this summer.

West Ham initial offer was thought to be £23million, or £20m rising to £27m with add-ons, and they returned with a second offer of a straight £24.5m, or £20m rising to £30m with add-ons.

Sean Dyche has said on several occasions that the club is in a strong position financially and are able to reject offers they don’t deem acceptable.

“We want to keep our best players in house,” the Burnley boss most recently said. “He is a very good player and has delivered for us on a consistent basis over a long period of time. I don’t see why any player would leave here at this moment in time and if so I would imagine the numbers would need to be considerable for it to even be considered.”

  1. Falling off my chair on a daily basis at the moment. Yesterday Jack Wilshere in injury shocker followed by the news the Tarkowski transfer has failed. Never could have seen either of those happening!

  2. as said on Talksports’s heads gone the other night –

Going from bidding for Tarkowski to signing Rob Holding on loan is literally the most typical Gold and Sullivan thing ever

  3. I wonder who keeps leaking these bids going in? Hmmm
What a waste of time, funnily enough they will need to find a replacement which costs around 40-50m , maybe that’s why they want that much, because there aren’t any good CB’s out there.

  4. Are we completely stupid or do we really like making ourselves look that way. Burnley have been very clear as to what it would take to get Tarkowski and we continually come up short of that by some distance. Rather than messing around with silly bids let’s go after those who will improve on what we have at FBs within the budget we have. Tarkowski is not within our budget and never has been, another case of GSB ineptitude and stupidity. We are in danger of not adding any additional players to our squad in the areas we need them and we are in very real danger of relegation already but seems like GSB happy to play Russian Roulette once again. Just go for God’s sake. Worst owners in our history and after Brown never thought I’d write those words.

    • Totally agree……. I too thought that Brown was the absolute worst and that we’d seen the back of him. He is STILL one of the large shareholders and I do wonder if he still advises GSB?

  5. Let’s be honest, I’ve seen this “Transfer Dance” on too many occasions to be taken in by any stories relating to this transfer rumour. As our other transfer targets are slowly snapped up one by one and the end of this transfer window draws to a close…. the transfer rumours being fed to us by the media in general lead us down a path of believing that something is happening in the background.
There is “Nothing” going on at this club other than scammers hiding in plain sight.
How can ANYONE blame Moyes for anything, when he hasn’t even been able (like MOST managers) to bring in players to correct the deficiencies of the team and squad. By the way Stuart Pearce doesn’t count as he was added to the coaching staff!
I truly believe that IF we were a well run club, players that we probably think wouldn’t join this club, would surprise many of us and join us. Aparently, Rob Holding doesn’t want to join us on loan…. Sadly, I would bet it’s because of the reputation this club now has

  6. I really don’t think we are bidding it’s just Sullivan leaking out this rubbish to make out his trying we all know they don’t want to spend any money a couple of free transfers and maybe if we push the boat out a loan hits all lies know one falls for this razzle dazzle anymore

  7. A suggestion.
Living in East Anglia I do have an interest in Norwich City – two players who perhaps we should look at are Max Aarons (FB) and Ben Godfrey (CB). Both are young, ambitious players who, despite Norwich’s ultimate fate, have performed well and have the potential to fit into Moyes’ grand plan. And, the two could almost certainly be bought for the price of one Tarkowski!

  8. Wasted weeks by offering 20 odd mil for a player with a 50 mil buy out …its insulting..the bid today should of been the first offer ..all we do is alienate clubs to us …what a waste of time with ridiculous offers..if we offer 35 rising to 40 we would have a chance, but all we do is **** clubs off ..they dont like dealing with fools that run this club anyway, so it just makes everything harder ..

  9. Just thinking whether GSB believe they are the right people for us based on their continual mantra which is similar to the line in Bubbles that “Fortune’s always hiding, I’ve looked everywhere” ?

We don’t believe in you anymore GSB, all we see is bids are always failing, unless you support elsewhere.

  10. Absolute embarrassment sell up del boy and rodders.

  11. Why are we persisting with this player? He clearly doesn’t want to sign for us (I don’t blame him – why leave a solid mid to upper table table to join a relegation fighter?). If we insist on upping bids for him by 2 or 3 million a week, the transfer window will have closed before we have a bid for him accepted. Either bid the money Burnley are asking (or at least don’t insult them by bidding 40% under) or move on to other targets. We are running out of time to sign and bed-in players.
