An awful lot was said about the players David Moyes brought into the club last summer and Ings in the winter but in fairness to him maybe it was too early to make a sensible judgement.
So with the international break consuming us at the moment, this may be the time to have a look at them and come to a judgement given their experience level at the club.
So here we go:
Emerson: Reservations at the start of his time with us but looking really exciting going forward and makes himself known defensively 7
Kherer: Ditto above on his start but looks a very decent operator these days when he gets the chance 7
Aguerd: At his best excellent but can be mistake prone and has made one of two worrying errors 7
Paqueta: Outstanding – so lucky to have him 9
Downes: Shipped out on loan to Saints as part of Ward-Prowse deal. Did no better than OK 6
Cornet: Almost impossible to rate him given a near mystery injury but tried hard enough on his chances 4
Scamacca: Was never going to appear again after a small injury and disappointing – puck your own reason 4
Ings: Looks much older than years and hasn’t looked the part at all 3
I agree with you except maybe on Scamacca. I feel that, just like Sebastien Haller before him, Gianluca Scamacca was a square peg in a round hole. That is to say that he did not fit the David Moyes system of playing one up front. I don’t think it was Gianluca’s fault but that Moyes either did not do his due diligence before buying him or that he failed to play a formation that suited the player’s strengths.
