No, this is not another blog about Adama Traoré joining West Ham, if that’s what you’re thinking… well, not yet anyway. That particular deal is still said to be of interest to Hammers manager Nuno Espírito Santo, but the latest link involves another of his former players.
Because West Ham ITK ExWHUEmployee has mentioned Willy Boly as a potential target, after previously working with Nuno at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest.
A Reality Check on West Ham’s Pull
The hulking central defender turns 35 next month, so it’s hard to get too excited about the prospect of him bringing any pace to West Ham’s ailing defence. After missing out on younger talent such as Charlie Cresswell, pursuing players like Boly feels like the final reality check on where the club currently sit in terms of attractiveness to potential signings.
It is probably just a symbol of where the club are right now, having left it too late after passing up the opportunity to truly push on in the summer.
Nuno must be mad rebalancing the squad to an older slower squad . No it’s media nonsense
So does the club look at home and abroad for talent in the lower leagues wanting to prove their ability in the world’s best?
As the article says, “the final reality check on where the club currently sit in terms of attractiveness to potential signings”.
Championship teams vying for promotion (so any in the play off positions and higher), will be looking at West Ham as a potential step backwards.
I don’t have an answer, but I think it does say a lot about how the club has been run.
I do think there is enough talent is this squad, if the manager can tap it and find the right formula, to avoid relegation.
However, a helluva change in the club set up is needed one way or another.
