How Sullivan Intervention Saved Soucek’s West Ham Career

Thomas Soucek’s West Ham career was saved by David Sullivan after he personally intervened to give the Hammer another chance, according to an agent source.

When Nuno Espírito Santo joined the Hammers in September last year, he said he would not stand in the way of Thomas Soucek should he want to find a new club in January.

According to an agent source close to the club, the West Ham chairman is a big fan of the 30-year-old Czech midfielder and questioned why the manager wasn’t including him in the team after a poor set of results.

Nuno took a leap of faith in starting Thomas Soucek and hasn’t looked back since. He quickly changed his mind and decided Soucek was an important member of his squad and was not for sale before the winter January transfer window arrived.

Soucek’s first start under Nuno came on 20 October against Brentford, but it was in November when Soucek hit form again, scoring four goals in back-to-back games in the month, two in the Premier League against Newcastle and Burnley, then two international goals for the Czech Republic.

He now has a regular starting place, scoring an important goal at the London Stadium against Manchester United in February.

Lets put David Sullivan in the dugout then….

Everyone is a fan of Soucek and in addition he brings experience to a young midfield. Good decision for sure. The 1st time he played as a sub in November he steadied the game, played it simple and played well too. Some of the best teams always have that combination of experience & younger players. He scores goals and that has been like gold dust for WHU until recently.

He was having a hard time of it before, but that was when midfield had only slow players in it – for obvious reasons that did not work for Soucek nor WHU.

Hope Soucek has a future role with the club, perhaps liaising between WHU and Czech Republic in some capacity.

Where would we all be if Nuno didn’t have Sullivan to pick the team for him? Wow, we’re lucky.

    As if ………..😂😂😂

I don’t suppose David Sullivan is the source of this “I am wonderful” piece of information?

This is the reason why head coaches should have little to do with player signings etc . Preferably a competent DoF should select both head coaches and players to ensure continuity . Lopetegui insisted on signing Killman ( huge mistake ) , Potter refused to get strikers and even Nuno getting Traore ( fortunately not costly ) have adversely impacted Westgham .
