How the IRONS rated

crowdAdrian: No chance for the goal  but a sound performance 6

Jenkinson: But for Carroll, he’d have been man of the match. Showed strong defensive abilities, superb cross for first goal and outstanding on the gallop 8

Reid: Strong performance at the heart of defence 7

Tomkins: Rarely troubled and with Reid formed a great partnership 7

Cresswell: Brilliant front to back performance, Great defending and tremendous darting runs forward 8

Song: Looked rusty early on after lay off when touch not at best but as he grew into it so did we 7

Kouyate: Enthusiastic and energetic without always finding a penetrative edge 6

Nolan: Nolan did what Nolan does. Finds those positions around goals but more required 5

Downing: Fine range of passing and supplied Carroll’s second goal. A transformed player 7

Valencia: Never quite on the boil and substituted at half time by Sakho 6

Carroll: Majestic first goal, grabbed the second and set up the Sakho’s . Right back to the top of his form. Outstanding

Subs: Sakho. Outstanding all round 45 minutes and a terrific goal as well as hitting the post twice. Welcome back Diafra 8

O’Brien ( 79) Collins (85)

  1. Song was immense, dictated play, passing was incisive, strong on and off the ball, he is head and shoulders above everyone else. Not Nolans biggest fan but thought he was better than a 5. Always thought we would get ourselves back in the game and deserved the 3 points

  2. Yeah, have watched the game again. Have upgraded but it wasn’t until he got on top ofm his game that we took charge and he was a bit fragile early on

  3. I don’t like to single out players for criticism, but Valencia does worry me… He hasn’t scored at Upton Park has he? Maybe he’s struggling to adapt/not fully match fit…. I just love Sakho! On Sky’s second replay of the sending off, it did look like ball was controlled by his arm a little, but it didn’t phase him and he hits the the post a couple of times and scores – the look in his eyes! He’s determined, hungry, I can’t remember many over last few years with that fire in his belly!

If Nobes had been fit, would Nolan have been in team? Is he a Buy One Get One Free when Carroll up front? I can’t recall him contributing much, apart from possibly knowing Carroll so well?

So if all fit, Carroll and Sakho as a partnership? Nolan, Valencia, Collins, JOB on bench to change things around? Looks like Jarvis not even making the bench these days, or Vaz Te… They will probably go in January right?

Finally, i’m not BFS biggest fan, but something has clicked, either with the players, him not being so stubborn on tactics, or has the recruiting of Teddy played a big part? *new players, can’t edit!

I have got off his back since the above has gelled, and will continue to do so unless he reverts to form… One day, just one day, we might sing Big Fat Sam’s Claret & Blue army!

We are United, we are West Ham, and highest position for 15 years – life’s good! 🙂 #coyi

  4. Sakho is the man…he is Mr west Ham for me. Where would we be without his goals

  5. I don’t get why Nolan gets singled out for critisim I really don’t. He came close to scoring twice in the first 18 mins, set up Sakho for the one he screwed on the post late on and did plenty more in the middle, more than Kouyette in fact. No one came near Songs performance in fact both Kouyette and the skipper get over shadowed by him.

I will never tired of watching Sakho’s goal. It was shades of Frankie Mc at Stamford Bridge.

  7. Imo nolan has looked a different player since his return from injury. I believe he played really well and on another day could have scored twice before fading a bit at the end.

Carroll was rightly MoM and it’s frightning to think that he was already nearly unplayable when there is still so much more to come.

However MoM was still a close run thing due to the excellence of Sakho, Song, Downing jenks cresswell etc! COYI!
