How we rated the Irons

|

andy-carroll_3354672Adrian:  Strangely untroubled, yet found himself picking the ball out the net 3 times.  6
Tomkins: Deployed in a no-mans land between centre-back and right-back, he was turned inside out before making way at the break   4
Cresswell:  A great display up the left wing with some vital tackles in the second half 7
Reid:  Seemed a little stretched today  6
Ogbonna:  Strong in the challenge and comfortable on the ball 7
Noble:  As usual raised his game against one of the top sides. Ran on fumes for the last 15 mins but kept going 8
Kouyate:  Gave Arsenal’s midfielders very little time on the ball  7
Lanzini:  Desperately unlucky to have a goal ruled out. Impressive in defence as well. 7
Payet:  Squared up to Ozil in the battle of the playmakers and came out well on top 8
Carroll:  Unplayable. Gave Koscielny a torrid time and probably deserved a couple more goals 9
Antonio: Caught in the confusion around who was right-back in the first half and thankfully was allowed to play there after the break. 8

Subs:
Emenike:  Easy to overlook his contribution. Gave width and options down the right. 7

Carroll did his job and made some good defensive headers as well,
But like the rest of you it’s hard to pick Kouyate was brilliant cut out so much in midfielder and still going to the end,
If Cresswell does not go to the Europeans Woy is stupid and Carroll if fit is a better option then Sturridge
But Payet for mr was MOTM not just class above everyone on the pitch but loves this club seeing him on his arse at the end of the games so deflated summed up how much he wants us to succeed
Game of the season Brilliant Entertainment

Antonio late defending on the 2nd (?) Arsenal goal. Had some excellent moments but lacks consistency. Will be a beast next year.

Carroll unplayable today. This was the first time this year that his strengths were able to complement those of Payet & Lanzini, rather than the team forced to choose one or the other.

Other than the result, Match of the Year for me.

It’s difficult not to choose Carroll after his terrific hat-trick but I thought Cresswell and Antonio both had great games – with Antonio shading the MOM for me!
