How we rated the Irons

|

AdrianNiall McDonald – as resident ratings man for C and H runs the rule over the pitiful Irons.

Adrian: Kept it down to three with at least five top class saves 6

Nordtveidt: Interested to hear Bilic’s rationale for playing him at right-back. Turned for the opener 3

Reid: Our best defender on the day, which isn’t meant sarcastically. Made a number of strong/late interceptions 5

Ogbonna: Few nervy moments but wasn’t alone in that. His distribution out of defense is below his usual standard just now 4

Arbeloa: Was this the first time he’d played left back? Caught way upfield several times and was fortunate not to be punished 4

Noble: One of those days when Noble didn’t create anything, and looked off the pace defensively 4

Kouyate: Sometimes you’ve just got to put your foot through the ball. Didn’t at the crucial moment and they got the second 4

Lanzini: Another game, another half-time substitution. Lanzini made way today, I guess he was injured as he was by no means our weakest player before the break 5

Payet: One nice flick, set pieces were poor. Booked for dissent and to be honest, didn’t look like he fancied it 4

Antonio: Right-midfield, left-midfield and right-back today 5

Zaza: 5 for effort, ploughed a lonely furrow alone for most of the game. Will he ever score though?

Subs Feghouli: Not heard a substitution greeted with such bemused surprise in a long time. Didn’t do anything to prove it worthwhile 3

Fletcher: Greeted with his usual cheer of hope/encouragement but again, never got close to getting the ball in the net 3

Fernandes: Couple of regulation passes

Adrien 4 lets in 11 goals in 3 games but keeps a keeper out who has a clean sheet
Arbeola 4 comes to cure our RB problem so our mad scientist plays him at left back
Ogbonna 6 only good defender on the pitch but can’t carry Reid week on
Novedt 5 playing out of position again when could do such a better job then Noble,
Noble 3 lost the idea of being a hard working hard tackling all energy midfielder, one he thinks he is Butch Wilkins and should be dropped for along time
Kouyate 7 worked his socks off but could not encourage the rest to play with him, must wonder where his team mates from last year have gone,
Payet 4 just does not looked interested in any thing but tacking free kicks and corners, needs a reality check,
Lanzini 4.5 never worked for him today but deserves his place in a side without Noble and Payet
Antonio 5.5 bad day with no one to play with, still looks the one that would score,
Reid 4 just not good enough any more how he is keeping Oxford and Burke out of our side I have no idea,
Maybe when we go down they will be old enough
Zaza 3 worked harder today but has nothing to offer no extra pace no idea how to hold the ball up,no great heading ability,
Don’t play him any more and save £20 million
Feggolui 3 brought into a side that was already beaten and pushed Antonio onto his worse side another strange decision by Slavenstien
Fletcher 4 needs a real chance before we are chasing the game,
Fernandez 4.5 no real chance but should be in the side before Nonle,
Slavenstien 2.5 no ideal what is going on in his mind,I will back him and do not want him gone but,
Noble,Reid,Zaza,Tore,Adrien now do not deserve his protection or Loyalty,
He must give a real chance to Byram,Oxford,Fletcher,Fernandez,Randolf before we loose are way
Return to basics no player needed in the Noble role a real tackler needed like Obiang or Norveld
Play Antonio in his real position or not at all,
Play Payet or Lanzini in the ball player role or not at all
And get some work ethics in the side like Liverpool have

Reid and Ogbanna were solid as was Antonio and Arbeloa. After that Adrian, Lanzini and Payet. Nordsvelt and Zaza are simply shocking. At the end of the day Bilic and our summer transfer business has been absolutely shocking. Mr Henry u better watch out as I think your days are numbered. As for the manager his team selection was poor, no inventiveness, could easily have played Oxford today. We need Oxford, Cresswell, Sakho in the team for starters and I hope Lanzini was injured because he certainly was not the worse performer in the first half. I fear for us this season – we don’t have the quality to play this system. We need to go to a 3-5-2 system. It is the system that suits this group of players i.e. can play Oxford, Reid and Ogbanna at the back. Arbeloa at RB, Cresswell at LB, Lanzini and Kouyate in midfield, Payet in behind Sakho and Antonio.

Thought Arbeloa done pretty good compared to many.**** knows how he only gets a four.
I can think of plenty of games worse than this under Fat Controller.

Adrian: Still not the keeper from these past two seasons, improving with important saves, but too slow on Austin’s goal 6
Nordtveidt: Bench player. Not up to this, doesn’t bring the “extra” needed to justify a starting 11 place. 3
Reid: Tried more than others. Lost in the sea of lack of coordination though. 5
Ogbonna: Galaxies away from what we expect from one who was seen as a future great in Italy, several years ago. Seems out of shape, out of ideas, and worse, completely disinterested. I feel there is a personal issue here. 2
Arbeloa: Looked like he was going to bring a bit more serenity to the defense. Many phases showed he is still adapting to other players. Give him right back and a couple of games. He should bring his experience. 5
Noble: Completely out of shape. Others don’t seem to respond to his commands. Needs to be replaced by Obiang. 4
Kouyate: Out of everything. Steam, technique, shape, ideas. Worst patch in many many years. Needs a rest. 3
Lanzini: Not decisive, but do you expect to lift this on his own ? 5
Payet: Absent, and when not, isn’t the clutch player we expect him to be. Clearly off shape, he spends too much time exaggerating fouls and protesting.
Antonio: Still our most motivated and hardest working player. Poorly assisted, ended up not knowing who to pass to. Needs to be played as striker. 5
Zaza: Bit better, but why did he switch feet on the best occasion he had ? Strike the ball with the right foot and it’s goal. still too far away of what we expect from an international class player. 4
Subs Feghouli: Tried to bring some pace and energy. The best moments of play coincided with his involvement on the right. Should start next game because he really fights, and emotions are contagious, aren’t they ? 6
Fletcher: Did not really get in the heart of the opponent’s defense. spent too much time and energy on the sides. Not what you expect from a “9”. 3.
Fernandes: Di not make any impact. But in less than ten minutes, what did you expect ?
Bilic : He probably knows payers better than us, but what is going on ? Looks like a lost soul, and we never even saw any of his assistants on screen.
Needs to do what everyone is feeling : Adrian- Arbeloa, Oxford,Reid , Ogbonna (or Byram) – Obiang – Feghouli, Lanzini, Payet – Antonio, Fletcher (or Fernandez, or Zaza, or my aunt Josefina).

Moss : Still think he is poor. Always prompt to remind everyone he is the sheriff, but unbalanced and inconsistent in decisions, poor psychology, and then misses a clear penalty. Third division ref.

That was worse than any game played under Fat Sam. If Fatty got the grief for performances then Bilic deserves the same. The West Ham way – absolutely appalling.

  • Hamptonese says:

Nobody came out with much credit bar Adrian and maybe Reid for some blocks. Lanzini gave the ball away too much. Kouyate not covering enough ground. Seen Nordveidt a few times now and he simply isn’t good enough. Payet looks frustrated. Another bad day at the office.
