How we rated the Irons

|

Michail AntonioAdrian: No chance with the goal but oozed class and confidence behind a patchwork back four 7

Tomkins: Gutsy, determined and solid – this boy grows by every game 7

Collins: Another top performance from the Ginger Pele – good stuff lad 7

Ogbonna: I like this fella- a no frills performer who keeps it simple 7

Noble: No complaints – got around the pitch, the usual odd error but pretty industrious 6

Song: Played in an advanced role and  sub standard showing  perhaps as a result 4

Jenkins: Tough time at left back in first half, better but not great when switched to right side after break 5

Kouyate: Played as the holding player at the back in first half  – far better second when joining in up front  7

Zarate: Made some bright runs and hauled down three times which was really three yellows – subbed at break 6

Antonio: Raw, exciting, direct and powerful . Scored one and assist for the other Man of Match 8

Valencia: Best performance in an Irons shirt for a lomg time – pace and trickery. What’s not to like 7

SUBS; Lanzini.Thrilled to see him back – a real ball carrying midfield genius. Fab display 8

Carroll: Second match winning goal of the season. Did really well but missed a sitter soon after appearing 7

Obiang: Late sub – no rating

Who is this Jenkins then ? New signing ? :-))

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but…

I think you are rating Antonio far too high. His goal was really a Southampton OG. He hit the woodwork before the Carroll goal on a header that he should have put in. It was an absolute sitter of a header and he just hit it too hard.

But for the whole game before that he was rather unimpressive. Yes…he can run…a lot…and fast. But was I the only one who was frustrated watching him, over and over again, run straight into a defender at full speed and give the ball away?

Don’t get me wrong. He is improving and causing things to happen, which is great. But to rate him higher than anyone else on the team is just not accurate.

@royalt213 if he hadn’t have scored, there was a good chance he’d have drawn out a penalty – he also got the assist for the second, winning him the MOTM and in to the dream team with 13 points in the Barclay’s fantasy football.

I would agree with the ratings above with the exception of two of them. I agree Antonio 8 is an over rating and I would also say giving Noble a 6 was too generous. I really believe it is now time to give Obiang his chance. Or put Oxford in midfield with Kouyate and assuming Cresswell is back switch Tomkins to RB in place of Jenks. Noble needs a rest in my opinion. He looks out of sorts.

Reading through the negatives on here, basically, Noble shouldn’t start because he’s too slow and Antonio was too fast, I give up sometimes

  • Muckracker says:

Antonio showed tremendous potential in this match which if he realises, will make him a far more effective player than Moses. l admit that perhaps l was too hasty in condemning him earlier, and l take back my headless chicken comments about him.
