How we rated the Irons

|
ReidyCandH’s Niall McDonald brings you the ratings from today’s disappointing visit to Goodison Park.
Adrian: One magnificent save from Barkley on his 100th start for the Hammers 6
Kouyate: Didn’t react for the Everton opener and didn’t spot Barkley arriving behind him for the 2nd 4
Reid: Handled the physical threat of Lukaku with relish. Best defender on the day 7
Ogbonna: Largely untroubled and got away with what looked a stonewall penalty in stoppage time 5
Cresswell: Pretty well shackled by Coleman today and saw little of the ball 5
Noble: One shot from distance before the break, left with too much to do in midfield once Obiang departed 4
Obiang: Missed the target when played through early on. Very professional in the middle, was surprised to see him subbed 7
Fernandes: Did well for me – looks sharp and comfortable on the ball, and always looks to move forward 6
Lanzini: Bright start but faded. Made no effort to track Barkley for the 2nd after losing possession and subbed straight after 5
Payet: Another who started brightly before receiving close attention. Set piece radar wasn’t tuned in today 5
Antonio: 10/10 for effort and running but just as he wasn’t a right-back, he isn’t a centre-forward either. A tired booking in the 89th minute 5
Subs:
Ayew: Was confused when we signed him and today’s cameo didn’t make his best position any clearer 3
Zaza: Dear me… 2
Feghouli: Let’s just say he arrived too late to make a difference No rating

well, with all respect to Slaven and his choices..I really do not see what hidden quallty he see in Zaza…

Yes, I couldn’t understand why Obiang was taken off, miving Lanzini back into the midfield alongside Noble leaves the Team seriously lightweight in midfield – once Obiang went off the shape of the Team was all wrong!

Payet had a poor game, giving the ball away too much.

We desperately need either Sakho or Carroll back!

Oh, and Zaza is still useless!!

Little OTT with some of the lower ratings, not what I would have given, just home from the game, nice short drive with NW games. Noble 4 come on?

Payet just was not in the game today, we just didn’t have anyone who could put the ball in the net, Zaza is just a waste of space, Cresswell just did not look himself today not once did he run forward with the ball?

Carroll back! it makes me smile. he has not managed enough games that we play in a season in the league since he joined us, no way can we rely on him! he can’t keep pace with any game!

Cresswell did make forward runs, especially in the first half but they didn’t pick him out. One moment in the first half Cresswell was in acres of space on the left yet Obiang just did a hopeful ball over the top. Obiang needs to get his head up more and see what’s around him.

I’m sorry but some of these ratings are a complete joke. Payet and Lanzini who were fantastic first half get 5? Ayew who looked bright when he came on 3? Yet Reid who gave the ball away for the first goal gets 7?

So it seems that Niall is going to make Ayew his new Zaza.He doesnt know why we signed him so we should expect low marks for him from here on in i am thinking.
Ok i get we all have our favourites or players we dont rate but if you are going to put marks on a site have some impartiality or it is a waste of time.
Whether you like Zaza or not you cant say no mark for Feghouli because he wasn’t on long enough in your opinion but then give Zaza a 2 when he was only on 6 minutes longer!!
    Just my opinion ofc…

I’m not anti-Ayew or Zaza and if/when either of them score I’ll happily give them top marks! Ayew was on for 20 mins(?) and made no positive impression. He wasn’t alone in struggling but didn’t have any impact. I was confused by the signing as he seems to not be the out and out striker we were supposedly after. Happy to be proved wrong. Zaza was similarly ineffective in the time he was on. Again, happy to be proved wrong by him in future games.

Noble should have been subbed not Obiang, Antonio missed the run of Barclay once again out of position defensively as a right wing back. I thought in general considering how much we put into Wednesday’s game we played pretty well, we just weren’t clinical, our final ball was poor and we barely won a header from corners in the second half. I also think we should have had a penalty at 0 0 when Antonio was pushed clearly in the back when trying to head the ball. The players looked like they ran out of steam after 75 minutes which again tells me there core fitness is not that of the likes of Everton, Tottenham, Southampton, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool on current form I think that leaves us looking at best case 8th this season which would be decent given our start but I think we will struggle without that X factor of pace up front to hurt the top teams on the counter.
