How we rated the Irons against Arsenal

|

Niall McDonald hands out his marks

Martin: Not the first West Ham keeper to have a relatively quiet game, and still let in 3! 6
Fredericks: Poor. Needs to improve his first touch and passing to prevent attacking moves grinding to a halt on his side 4

Balbuena: Average. I can’t argue for Diop to replace him at this point in time 6
Ogbonna: Our best defender for me and played very well throughout 7
Cresswell: Booked for a heavy challenge and injured in the process, forced off on 50 mins. Had done pretty well to that point 6
Rice: Didn’t dominate the midfield as I’ve seen him do against on other occasions, but ran til the end 6
Noble: 500th PL start for the skipper, and showed some flashes of real quality in the first half 6
Snodgrass: His usual determined performance 6
Fornals: Very impressive, especially in a central number 10 role. Lots of energy, pressing and crisp passing 8
Anderson: Huge boos greeted his substitution – presumably aimed at the manager, although Anderson had not had an outstanding game to that point 5
Antonio: Led the line admirably for an hour before tiring. Ended up in a holding midfielder role 7

Subs
Masuaku: Showed some intelligent touches in attack which were far outweighed by some really poor defensive play 2
Haller: The 2-up front partnership with Antonio might have had a chance had Arsenal not scored their 3rd while he was walking to the touchline!!
Holland: Little opportunity to have an impact in the latter stages 4

Well where do I begin. Tonight I saw rather laborious team performance, which I ham hard to suggest any one got above 6 points.
    Martin 6
Frederick 4 huffed and puffed but got no where
balbueno 5 but would have been better if he defended well
ogbonna 6 just simply because he scored.
    Rice 7 easily MOM
    noble6 runner up MOM
Anderson 5 when in centre okay but do not go on the wing
Fornals 3 huffed and puffed but got no where
Snodgrass 4 his usual crass performance
Cresswel 8 Tide Momo with aRice
Antonio 5 usual huff and puff needs to be put on wing

Pellegrini 3 go back to school and learn about football, tactics and deployment

I agree with Fornals 3….dont know where this suddenly rating him as 8 has come from he still looks like “a rabbit caught in the headlights” every time he gets the ball never runs at players with the ball just passes it normally backwards as soon as he gets the ball normally breaking up any attack…

Cress got injured before the challenge, that’s why he dived in as he knew he wouldn’t be able to chase him.

  • Paul Miller says:

I’m pretty sure this wasn’t Mark Noble’s “500th PL start”.
