How we rated the Irons against Bournemouth

Hughie hands out his marks

Fabianski: Very little to do all evening from a toothless Bournemouth 6

Johnson: One of Ben’s better games -good passer of the ball tonight and defended well 7

Kehrer: Lots to like – rarely troubled 7

Zouma: Scored a scruffy goal and made some fine interventions and tackles 7

Cresswell: Always on the case offensively and did nothing wrong at the back 7

Rice: Always in control of and once again looking our most reliable player 8

Soucek: Looked good again for most of the 90 minutes as he attacked more than usual 7

Downes: Didn’t look the least out of place on PL home debut 7

Benrahma: Always threatening and the most creative player on the field 8+

Bowen: Some fine runs and always ready to receive the out ball when under pressure 7

Scamacca: Received plenty of ball to feet but too often lost control and was bustled out of it 5

Subs:

Antonio: On for Scamacca and didn’t see enough of things to make an impact 4

Fornals: No rating

Coufal: No rating

  1. I would like to know from other fans, do ye agree with a 7 rating for Biwen and Soucek. Do you agree because I am tired at seeing both of them contribute little or nothing. I thought both were terrible tonight (not the first time this season). Moyes cane out with an article this week praising Bowen and saying he is a must for the England squad. He wont be going to the world cup as his form has dipped dramatically.

  2. Thought Scamacca was always going to struggle tonight when we lined up with so few creative midfielders. Too much of his work was nearer the hallway line than the penalty box as a result and I don’t want to see him fighting for scraps but rather on the end of attacks. Why three defensive midfielders at home against an average opponent with no great striking force? The midfield gap was huge and I thought we were lucky not to be overrun. We really needed the win though 👍

  3. It is interesting to see how the fans voted on the BBC poll: Benrahma was man of the match followed by Rice and Scamacca, who I felt was an excellent target man but received little support and not enough movement from the other players. Of those who started the game Johnson, received the lowest rating and Bowen was only just above him, which I think reflects how they played. Overall Antonio received the lowest score, with which I totally agree, as, apart from one break, he spent his time on the pitch either falling over or miscontrolling the ball. With Aguerd, Dawson, Paqueta and Cornet all returning to the squad soon, hopefully we will be able to field our strongest team, with Kehrer at right back again.

  4. Starting to worry a little about Scamacca. Can see another Haller situation although clearly he’s on another planet work rate wise. Body language just doesn’t look right. Cuts a frustrated player. Shame to see him go back to his bad ways of trying too much last night. He’d started playing the right ball in recent games but was poor last night. Hopefully just a bad game. Would like to see him play up top with Mickey for a bit longer. I actually think it would work pretty well if given time to gel.

  5. Average performance with a couple of var decisions going our way.
Soucek better than he has been. Scamacca can’t make my mind up on him, perhaps we expect a lot better for the money. Benrama good penalty but his shooting is awful. Bowen for me takes a battering every game not from us fans but the defenders, always making himself available but some of those balls from Johnson were always going to get Bowen clattered. Just my armchair view.
