How we rated the Irons against FCSB

Hughie gives his marks on the hammers starting 11

Areola: Very little to do against a poor side – one good second half save 6

Coufal: Pretty reasonable performance front and back 7

Johnson: Some sloppy early passing, Grew into it 6

Aguerd: Always in control but not the biggest test he will ever face! 7

Ogbonna: Same as above – he makes a real difference to the left side 7

Scarles: Made some really good runs and a couple of great deliveries into the box 7

Lanzini: Some great passing and stronger on the ball 7

Coventry: Quiet in the middle of the park but nothing to complain about 6

Downes: Looking a better and better player. Fine signing 9

Fornals: Two goals and a top performance 9

Mubama: Sadly, had a goal ruled as an own goal but very, very promising display getting in behind 7

  1. It looked a lovely mix of very experienced players at the back with the youngsters in with great creative players. Lovely for the debutants!! So very pleased to see us play creative attacking football and involve the striker not isolate him. Great stuff Irons!

  2. Good ratings but I thought 9 for Downes was excessive. Fornals also got a 9 bit he player so much better than Downes. Downes did well perhaps a 6 or 7. I also loved Lanzini’s performance so many times he does the simple things so well and so many times he plays the ball forwardvthsn going sideways or backwards. Downes is a good player but he does alot of back and side passing. Lanzini was for me an 8 at the very least

  3. Scarles deserved an 8 at least.
