How we rated the Irons against Frankfurt

Hughie hands out his marks

Areola: Little chance with either goal but beyond that, fine and distribution quicker and better than Fab’s 7

Johnson: Surprised we didn’t see Coufal at some stage. Ok defensively but his crossing – notably in the first half – was poor  6

Dawson: Once again did some great work at heart of defence. How can you fault the fella 8

Zouma: Back in the team at the right moment and as calm and collected as ever 7

Cresswell: Second best to the flying Eintracht winger particularly in the first half – did better in the second 6

Rice: Not as influential as he would have hoped against a very good midfield 6

Soucek: Tried hard to get forward and did ok in the middle but lost his man for the second goal 5

Fornals: Pretty anonymous to be honest 5

Lanzini: Ditto above 5

Bowen: Hit the woodwork twice,   the seccnd time with an overhead piece of brilliance at the end Never stopped 7

Antonio: Some fine link up work and a goal  did well 7

Subs

Benrahma: Outstanding and caused panic from the minute he came on. Best performance yet in the claret and blue 8

  1. I’m sorry but while I agree with most of this, and you guys will appreciate the subjectivity of scoring player performances, I think you’re way off the mark with Dekkers…..he was IMMENSE tonight and was ultimately the highest quality player on the deck. 9 out of 10 easy.

  2. Got to agree, Decs was immense tonight. First man back with a tackle and drove forward at every opportunity, giving the player receiving the ball and opportunity in a dangerous area. Antonio was again disappointing, scored the goal yes, but guess who was next to him ready to tap in. Rice, minimum 8

  3. Rice was our most effective player last night, unfortunately most of his work was defensive.
